just 1 question, you moved up from *somewhere* to Harrogate but plated for York, is the grass greener on the other side?

i only moved from the cotswolds back to harrogate because my wife is quite poorly and wanted to be back near her mother because like most taxi drivers i am never at home i built up an excellent business in the cotswolds then sold it the only reason i got plated in york is firstly there is no age limit on vehicles secondly i was a taxi driver there for 10 years so i knew i could pass the knowledge quite easily my long term aim was always to be licensed in harrogate

I am led to believe it is now not that easy to pass.

i think you are right i have been told it is quite difficult the licensing person actually gets in your car and asks you to take them to a few different locations

You missed my point, I meant the test in York, I have been told that even experienced drivers wishing to return have failed it 2 or 3 times

oh my god i have just passed all the tests in york after having been away for 4 years it is so hard the knowledge test was very difficult i am fortunate that i had previously been a taxi driver in york for 15 years how someone who hasnt been a driver in york passes it is beyond me apparently there are a group of people who take the test every fortnight and fail every time some drivers that i have spoken to took the test 5 times before passing

The plate barons don't seem to have problems with the number of new drivers coming through, just the number of vehicles.

a lot of the hackney drivers and plate renters are ex private hire in york you can rent a plate and then put it on your car as long as you make a bill of sale out showing the plate owner as the new owner of the car its ridiculous really everybody knows who the car belongs to because they have run the car on private hire in their own name then go on to rent a plate using the same vehicle

Surely that's fraud. Don't owners sign to say it's their vehicle on official forms. Perhaps the LA should look at prosecuting and taking away licences. Not fit and proper persons etc
