Taxi driver hurt in unprovoked attack in Oldbury



A VIOLENT Oldbury man repeatedly punched a taxi driver in an unprovoked attack after taking a cocktail of drink and drugs, a court heard.

Mark Richards, who has a string of convictions for assault and battery, suddenly punched the driver in the face after he dropped him off outside his home in Langley Crescent.

He lashed out with further punches before the driver escaped on foot and, by chance, came across police officers.

The 26-year-old, who had drunk 10 pints of cider and also taken cocaine, was jailed for 10 months after pleading guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to assault causing actual bodily harm.

Paul Reid, prosecuting, said the driver had a tooth knocked out, a false tooth was broken, two other teeth were loosened and he had a cut to his lip that needed four stitches at hospital.

Blondelle Thompson, defending, said Richards was disgusted and ashamed at what he had done.
