Should the pension be means tested or will every pensioner get it? Will those pensioners that have not contributed in any way to their pension get the same as those pensioners that have worked all their lives?

Your question could involve many women, they stay at home to raise a family (the next generation of tax payers) and make no NI contributions, statistically they then outlive thier husbands....

How about £150 p/week to every pensioner, means tested against income and assets?...

Means testing is a dangerous route to me for it opens the door to a gradual removal of the Pension, but its certainly worthy of debate.

toots I believe benefits should be universal I havnt ignored you question but its a very complex debate whats your view very pleased to see your interest, unlike so many here.

£150 a week is insulting in london you would starve maybe £250 would be approaching something ADEQUATE.

There was press report some years ago about a woman found dead in a tenement flat in Victoria less than a mile from Buckingham Palace, he flat was frozen the the sink full of ice the toilet frozen she was dead she had choked to death on a piece of cardboard the was no electricity no surviving relatives ignored by society, during WW2 she had been a nurse in Burma and captured by the Japanese where she endured their regime. Society the British society allowed her demise in those disgraceful circumstances, a mile away the von Windsor specimen was feeding her Corgis the finest fillet steak on solid gold plates in luxurious surroundings warm comfortable secure, how different for the ex nurse, what a reflection on this country of ours!! and of course its very likely to happen again very shortly in OUR country surely that is obscene ??

Where the f**k were you? No doubt you were talking about the "revolution" and how you are going to change society instead of actually doing something for society.

Actually I was arguing campaigning for an increase for pensioners within my Union and within the Labour Party plus of course the removal of the Von Windsors =D> =D>

What the f""k were you doing about the Pensioners? let me guess mmm eff all.

Tell us all what campaigns you have partaken in if any, and do you support an increase for pensioners NOW??????

Yes, that just about sums you up. This will obviously stop a pensioner freezing to death.

as always TT you miss the point (must be yr glasses)

on £150/wk a pensioner would also qualify for other means tested benefits, you hate the rich, they dont need a state pension intended for those who have had no chance to save or invest, make £150 a starting point for OAP incomes, if they have a £500/wk private pension and a £2,000,000 mansion the clegg-manison-tax will sort em out

I don't think anything should be means tested against so called assets as most peoples only asset is the family home, which they have worked hard for most of their life. Perhaps the government should match whatever pension payments have been made by people, thus encouraging people to save for retirement (clearly a limit would be needed). Stay at home mothers or fathers would share in their partners pension contributions. Those that never contributed would be on basic state pension. It may well be an idea to provide pensioners with free fuel for the winter months, that could help. I don't know the solution but I do get a little annoyed that people get all upperty because they believe they are entitled to more than they have or their partner has contributed to. That aside those that have helped our country to remain free and safe should never be without heat, food or shelter.

funny I went to spec savers, any way no i missed no point a pension should remove the necessity of means tested benefits a pension to me is a right not a benefit if they have a private pension of £500 a week so what they bought it or earned it, some of us of course invested in pensions and watched crooks run off with them and donate the loot to the Labour Party Robert Maxwell Neil the kuuunt Kinnock!!!

Sod the mansion tax just make them pay income tax theres a £15 billion fraud going on there annually, that Clegg and Cameron know of but ignore because their paid to

Glad to see your at last recognising the plight of the pensioners, to me its an obscenity that OUR pensioners should starve and freeze to death in OUR nation

if anyone starves or freezes to death its usually because no-one has checked on them or visited, and they have other problems, quite often they are found to have food in the home, and cash in a shoebox, but other physical or mental problems prevent them functioning as normal

so how many elderly neighbours do you check on?

And of course it's nothing to do with them turning off the heating or saving food, because some Tory tw4t thinks pensioners can live on a pittance, while handing out tax cuts to the most wealthy in society

I'm probably the oldest person left around here.
Most of the elderly moved out after the junkies took over the neighbourhood.
The rest starved or froze to death after the junkies robbed them of their meagre pensions and the large hoards of cash they kept in shoe boxes.
They would have had more money saved for their retirement but after following the advice of the last few governments, some bunch of Tory scum investment bankers robbed them all blind.

BTW Social services were too busy helping the junkies hang on to their kids and arranging their methadone programs to give a sh!t #-o
