My own problem was the gear cables last week. Four weeks ago, on the advice of the mechanic I had new ones fitted - the originals were working but getting sticky. Last Sunday I nonchalantly changed up from 4th to 5th and embarrassingly found myself in 3rd. Tried again and again - no 5th. Took it to the Garage on Monday - new cable had "stretched". New cable ordered and I carried on with 4 gears and reverse. Tuesday it snapped - no gears. Recovered to the Garage at lunchtime and collected repaired Cab at 5pm.

That is 2 sets of cables in less than a year. Well 3 if you count this new one that snapped.

158,000 miles........the alternator failed on the way back to Carlisle from Newcastle - the brave wee thing allowed me to drive the last 45 miles like a man with his pants on fire - at night on just battery power.

Made it home and awaiting the garage to pick it up!

Just get a brush pack for £10 and fit them yourself undo 3 small bolts on the back and pull the old ones out refit the new ones and bolt them up

The bearings also go on them which means new bearings which you can't fit yourself.

I used to sell alternator repair kits for lincoln towncars. You would get the bearings, brushes and voltage regulator for around £20. I would guess the same kits are available for most alternators.

It's usually not cost effective to pay a garage to do this type of work. With their hourly rate + VAT, you'd be as well getting an exchange unit fitted.
Good if you can do the work yourself or have someone who can do it at a decent price.

A gearbox though?

It's not even near needing a clutch.

Useless sh*te.

CC

what causes this is riding the clutch

If you check the wiring next to the air box, most of the time the vibration from the box wears through the wires solution remove air box splice the wires and move them away from the air box using cable ties
symptoms same as MAS problem
