I have 2 questions both related

Question 1 How long do CU80 and MS 90 penalties stay on a driving license ( Not me i might add) I am asking on behalf of one of my drivers who has just picked up an sp30 (mobile camera) but has the other 2 dating back to 2008. my understanding is that for totting up purposes only the new points should count BUT I believe I am right in saying that some offences count for longer are these 2 one of those ?

Question 2 Insurance companies take points into account for more than 3 years how many years will the CU80 and MS 90 be counted when calculating his insurance premium ?

Most points come off after 3 years from the date of the offence not the conviction date, especially speeding

Points only count for three years, but clearly stay on the license unless you renew it. Totting up will only cover the three year period from the offence, not the conviction date.

How long endorsements stay on your driving licence

An endorsement must stay on your driving licence for the following periods of time:

Eleven years from date of conviction

If the offence is:

drinking or drugs and driving - shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80
causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs – shown on the licence as CD40, CD50 and CD60
causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis – shown on the licence as CD70

Example: Date of conviction is 3 December 2002 - the endorsement must stay on the licence until 3 December 2013.

Four years from the date of conviction

If the offence is for:

reckless/dangerous driving - shown on the licence as DD40, DD60 and DD80
offences resulting in disqualification
disqualified from holding a full driving licence until a driving test has been passed

Example: Date of conviction is 28 May 2004 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 28 May 2008.

Four years from the date of offence

In all other cases.

Example: Date of offence 10 June 2005 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 10 June 2009.

When endorsements and penalty points can be removed from a driving licence

How Long Do I Have to Have the Penalty Points Showing on my Licence?
Any penalty points incurred are valid from a 3 year period from the date the conviction was given, but must stay on the licence for an additional twelve months, so a total of 4 years.
