Taxi fares in Borders set to rise

TAXI fare in the Scottish Borders are set to rise by 2.5 per cent following talks between the council and taxi operators, writes Bob Burgess.

The planned rise follows the annual review of fares and if approved by councillors on Tuesday will take effect on December 3.

A total of 114 taxi firms were approached by the council for their views but the response to a second phase of consultation has been described by Scottish Borders council as “poor”.

its no longer 25% you get a discount up to £1.00 off all fares over £3.00 until midnight :D
BTW CC thats news to us nobody asked for a rise as it would cost between £25 and £35 to reset the meters

The council have to review fares at least every 18 months. They could decide to leave as they are, raise or even lower.
Doesn't matter if anybody asked. BTW did you ask everybody?

Out of the 114 firms, only 6 operators turned up, the council had a meeting at 4 venues over a week, covering the 4 zones, 3 of those operators went to every meeting, they where all from the same company, so it looks like those 3 forced the rise the rest dont want

The next consultation must start within 12 months of the rise being implemented, and must take place within 18 months, the traffic commissioner has told the council this
