On my NVQ we were told that the following day someone would bring a London style cab down and we would be shown how to load wheelchairs.

After asking if any of us drove a WAV and being told no (all saloons), they said 'Oh we won't bother then'. #-o

In Chesterfield last night they were doing wheelchair loading tests, those who could load them took 5 minutes, there were some epic fails according to the Licensing Officer, she said the HC drivers along with their plates and badges would be going in front of the points committee on Wednesday with a recomendation that they either suspend or revoke plates and badges.

Thats the way forward.

Did the test include Health and Safety?

I ask a bus driver what they do if a wheelchair passenger requires to get on, he said we have to asses the situation as they are only allowed to push up to 75kg, (160 LB equivalant) but they must also asses that the wheelchair will fit in the space provided and its not going to injure or hinder other passengers.

The drivers were not even going to have to load the wheelchair. The carer was going to do all the loading.

But the driver could still have a "duty of care" for anyone loading into his vehicle, and whats the SWL of normal ramps?
