Today morning 1st thing i got a radio fare into town which i dropped off outside sainsburys, normally ill go straight to the market rank where most work is but i decided to just stay at the sainsburys rank 3cars ahead of me and after waitin a wile i decided to just go to the market rank, as i was comming down towards the market a lady flagged me so i stopped not knowing she mistakened me for another taxi she phoned for.
So the private hire gets there seeing her get into my cab and drives besides me and shouts 'OII THATS MY [edited by admin] FARE' i then say she flagged me so means its my fare now. And he starts using aggressive language so i just drive off.
So was i in the wrong or was i doing my job as a Hackney cabbie???

IMO, you've done nothing wrong.

BUT!!

Was the lady already in your cab when the PH driver told you she was his pre-booked fare?

Legally, I don't think you have done anything wrong. Morally, pinching someones booked fare is the most hienous of crimes.

Hanging's too good for him. It's a good kick in the arse he needs.

There are, believe it or not, drivers who revel in taking opposition companies fares. (Reprobates that they are  ). Glad to see you're not one with your show of remorse. :D :D

If the PHV driver had been a HC driver, then he would have been the criminally guilty one instead.

But it really does take the biscuit for a PHV driver to complain about a Hackney driver taking his job considering the pirating that many PHV drivers are so skilled at.

yes especially in Peterborough where the PH rely on poaching bookings from other people to make a living

I agree if the woman flagged you down and was already in your car perfectly legitimate

You are not to know the fare has pre-booked so you've done nothing wrong. However it is professional courteousy to allow the PH to take their booking once you realise the passenger has phoned beforehand, presuming they are prepared to swap vehicles. Remember that PH may be driving past one day whilst you're stuck with the bonnet up or getting the 5Hit kicked out of you, if you knowingly pinched their job they may just keep driving past with a big smile on their face rather than stop to help

I find that customers don't care that they are able to get a flag down rather than wait a few minutes for the cab they've phoned - all they want to do is get home, so it's not your fault. I also find that round here most (not all) HC will refuse the fare once you tell them it's a pre-booking.

If you was flagged down then there is no way you are at fault.

However if she had booked a PH and flagged you down as well, then maybe you both should have left her there the snidey cow.
