If Mr T and Captain have gone as well then that's up to them, and good luck to them.

But if anyone thinks that we've been unreasonable to Yorkie then I won't be sorry to see them go either, and ditto anyone who agrees with Yorkie's obvious 'scorched earth' strategy.

Anyway, the rationale for the recent bannings is to get away from all the nonsense and onto some real issues.

We'll leave the petty stuff to the other forums. :D

Just cos Mr Yorkie is no more on here, doesn't mean that those that wish to hear his wisdom cannot.

No doubt he will be preaching elsewhere and good luck to him.

But he is one thing that you are not, and that's a full-time working cab driver.

So how many cabs do you have Mr T, and which one best describes you:

From the unions in New York:

Under the current scheme in place in New York City, more than 44,000 workers who drive the city's taxicabs are being blatantly exploited by a cartel of owners who have manipulated the system to deprive the drivers of income and benefits...

From a Dublin journalist:

Drivers who didn't have a licence, so-called "cosies", were forced to pay £250 a week for the right to work. They had to pay that money to the licence owner, before earning a penny for themselves. To own a licence was to be a little baron, with the right to extract money from hard-working cosies and to harass [PH] drivers. Some people owned several licences.

From a Cambridge councillor:

In other cases, the holder of the licence merely 'rented' the right to operate the cab to a succession of other people, sometimes to more than one person at once. There are even instances of people who hold more than one licence who make money not by driving but by 'renting' out their licences.

By the way, I think the Cambridge councillor (David Howarth?) was a Lib Dem.

Isn't Liverpool CC Lib Dem-controlled?

I doubt if taxi policy will be mentioned in the Lib Dem election manifesto

Incidentally, since the Cambridge councillor obviously thought people holding more than one license was noteworthy, I wonder what he thinks of his Lib Dem colleauges in Liverpool who preside over a system in which some have dozens of plates?

You are absolutly correct, liverpool has a lib dem controled council . The taxi licensing committee, consists of 6 members of the lib dem party and 2 members of the laubour party .Why the committee metting on the 24 th march, decided to not to end its restriction of taxi licences . I am not realy sure .It was not in the interest of the 2672 drivers of hackney s . It was very much , not in the interest of the thousands, of people who use Liverpool taxi s ,many of who are by national standards very poor .But it was very much in the interest of a minority of rich taxi owners . 89 nine who dont even drive a taxi . How come London, Birmingham ,coventry and many more cities , dont have restrictions and have better taxi services ?.

Our local Liverpool paper has ,a business for sale colum . In it you can see advertised hackney cabs and plates for sale with or whithout drivers . As the dictionary definition of a serf is a labourer who is attached and could be sold . Is this not indicative of this practise, of regulating taxi numbers. That a man in England to day ,can be sold like an animal. Are you will say he is self enployed , How can he be self employed . He does not even own his own tools.
