Taxi Driver Online

Hi new to forum but need some help live in a Rural area and have been working for a local company for three and a half years and had six months off to do another job but now thinking of starting on my own with a very limited budget . Been getting quotes for insurance had had my eye on a car but the insurance company say they don't insure cars over ten years old (the local authority haven't got a problem with age) is this normal? Also can anybody recommend a very cheap car and any to avoid. Can't seem to get quotes on a Saturday

I've had a few taxi insurance companies say they won't insure a vehicle over ten years old and/or less than £2500 in value.

Out in the sticks you can it all to yourself, still get your own school runs, bow to no base, set your own fares, etc, etc

if it was me (which it was) id consider a multi-seater, get a website, flood the area with leaflets, pay for an ad in the parish magazine (£50 a year), make sure the local pubs and eateries know your available too

sometimes less is more

as for insurance, i never had problems getting it, just not sure if an old vehicle is good to start up with

There are some insurance co's that don't like older vehicles. Equity Red Star being one. Service Insurance look for a minimum declared value of £2100. Enterprise don't like older vehicles, will do them but charge more. Aviva have no problem with them but are unlikely to be competitive without NCB actually earned on a taxi.

Don't give up, keep ringing around. I started with quotes of 5k etc and managed to get it for 2k eventually, still quite expensive but this is with 0 years no claims, and 1 year of holding a taxi badge.

Hi got two possibilities both old a rover 420 diesel good history leather seats or a newer Citroen Picasso petrol newer but higher mileage??

My ph insurance is under £1k a year..a new car is better in my view as it gives a better public image than driving a clapped out heap. Expensive, but better for business in my opinion, and usually more reliable.

There is a thread on here that tells us that South Essex Insurance Brokers have stopped doing taxi insurance.

Hi thanks for help I think south essex was giving me the best quote OH NO. Beginning if this is ever going to get going on my very limited budget another company was going to phone back before eleven today, has not done so . What goes on? Budget less than that got made redundant last week! Looking at a C5 but can't get there today either.

whats your car budget, Insurance can be had on monthly payments and whats you LA's "grant"/first vehicle plate age limit?

The L/A only stipulate if it is older than ten years it is MOTed every six months about £1500 but I can get a better car for that than some taxis around these parts

not being funny mate but how long will you get reliably out of a £1500 car?
