@skull. As a matter of interest what do you do for a living now?..... I can pretty much understand your thoughts and where you're coming from so why did you stick it for so long? I can sympathize you worked a big town and probably took a great deal of crap, but surely it wasn't ALL bad as you portray it.... was it? I sense you have had a bad deal working in the trade and things have turned out bad for you.

To everyone else, I can appreciate that the trade is generally suffering badly in the present climate, but then so are a lot of others unless you are a politician or banker etc etc.  Believe me I'm under no delusion when it comes to the downside of the trade and would agree that cabbies are generally their own worst enemies, so it IS a matter of looking after No1 and looking after those who look after No1. The rest will just have to look after themselves. This last year has gone fast and I hope the next five will fly by. I do sense that the LC outcome will be tough on the trade but maybe that's the shake up it requires, I don't know..... :-|

So how does your local authority deal with you, when facing a complaint, founded or otherwise? Do you get a fair hearing where you are informed of your rights? Do you have a right to silence? That is, you are not forced to act as a witness against yourself by speaking to the complaint, while under threat of losing your licence? And do they need credible evidence to suspend or revoke a licence?

I hope I have a very good working relationship with the council's licensing team, and yes they do do their jobs properly.

However I fully understand there are many areas where licensing officials are clueless and operate on a master servant basis.

A family member is in the process of setting up a business, in which, I will be working in the New Year. That’s as much as I can say at the moment. She doesn’t want anyone knowing until everything is ready and underway. A nice easy job btw, and more part-time than full-time hours. Oh and with no ar*holes to put up with.

As far as my thoughts and sticking it for so long, up until 2008, I was still earning a fair living. After that it was downhill all the way. The job wasn’t worth doing anymore, and I wanted out. I then got a complaint from a car driver, about as trivial as you can get and basically. I told the cab inspector and the council what to do with their licence. The rest is history. I’d had enough.

However, my views on the council and the politics of the trade, I’ve held since not long after becoming a driver twenty years ago. The trade really is a pile of sh*t manned, for the most part, by wa*kers.

Honestly, I come on this forum now for a bit of amusement. I find it hard to believe I lasted so long working with so many idiots. That's not to say everyone is an idiot but the vast majority are without a doubt. Take wannabeeahack, for instance, he would argue against having rights or equality just to show the council he is on their side, or to big himself up to other cabbies.

You can’t make this sort of shi* up.

Im PRO "rights" and equality you muppet, and the very last thing I want to do is is suck up to a LA that is imposing extra financial burdens on me or "big" myself up to other cabbies, not that I know any, apart from a guy 120 miles away, who I dont have to impress

Your vitriol is only eating at you squire, enjoy!

LA's, cabbies, bankers, MP's, you, Gusmac, and everyone else is welcome to whatever they desire and good luck to them, I paddle my own canoe thanks, I always have done, I ask for no help (cos id get none anyway)

Merry Christmas

Are you going to be customer relations manager. Your attitude towards the trade/public and La is disgusting and its ignorant people like yourself who have held the trade back for so long. You have failed at the taxi trade and could no longer make it pay while others who have a better attitude and outlook have succeeded. Some people are that far behind that they actually think there in the lead.
