If I join a Union, will I be able to Strike, and demand better pay and conditions from my employer? (Me)

2 jobs your a worker ie you drive therefore a Union is appropriate for you it will assist in many ways.

Helping establish appropriate licensing regimes through the Unions political input [many councillors will be sponsored supported by a Union]
Dealings with your LA disciplines etc
Supplying sick pay schemes
Car vehicle purchase schemes [ cheaper than any other source]
Cheap PH Hack Insurance
Free 24 legal advice and representation/ for you and your immediate family on any issue.
assist you in determining whether you are actually self employed, many arei n fact "Workers under the direction of the Company" which allows you to handle your own tax affairs but gives certain employment rights. Paid hols, disciplinary procedures, negotiations on every aspect of your working enviroment, working time regs, Health and safety etc.
cheap holiday deals home insurance miles of fringe benefits.

But the point is you as a worker can have immediate access to advice and assistance for your working enviroment, and of course by joining togetherstart to stamp out the malicious dishonest crooks so prvlevant in the Industry, cab drivers work more hours for less money in VERY dangerous circumstances than any other workers PURELY because they refuse to stick together ie get UNIONISED

YOU WOULD BE MADE WELCOME IN MANY UNIONS YOU MIGHT CARE TO CONSIDER THE GMB WHICH HAS MANY PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS BRANCH'S http://www.gmb.org.uk =D> =D>
Written like a true Komunistitchny Tovarisch spouting the propaganda!

Nah Brummie just the truth hes on the south coast some good reps down there :D

For 136 quid a year it has to be a good deal. Plus you can put it against tax!! Quite a few here have joined over the last few years and it has paid off!! Our LA treat us with far more respect than they used to, believe it!! I'm not that union minded, but joined out of exasperation of a complaint made against me that wasn't true. The GMB Solicitor/Lawyer made mincemeat out of them and from what I've heard saved another cabbie from having his licensed revoked. Worth thinking about.....

yeah, i got faries down the bottom of my garden too.

Dont cut the grass....

Hi All,

Some interesting and some witty posts. I agree that of course some Unions provide representation for member drivers and that's great. However, we have a busy department dealing with all manner of PH and Hackney issues. Somme of these drivers either are not member of such organisations and some are. The point is, represented by the Union lawyer or not, we need to have more access to legal advice and representation by those who are competent in this area of law (which can be tricky to navigate) For many years now I have many local authorities give hard working drivers a bad deal for no good reason.

As to fees, we feel our fees are sensible and appropriate. We are happy to quote on a case by case basis. However, I think the question is, what is your livlihood worth to you? Union lawyer or not, Get represented and be heard!! We have helped many many drivers who now possibly would not be on the road and look forward to helping many others.

nah of course he wouldnt but if hes any good maybe he should approach various Unions and offer his services naturally we or they would want to Unionise his office  which shouldnt be a problem should it Kuldip :?: :?:There could be a load of work for your company through Union connections and your advice" Get represented and be heard" needs to be heeded :D :D

As I've already said, I doubt anyone could do it for that price.... Lots of different benefits so it has to be good..... As with most cabbies most have an aversion to unions or any organised approach until it hits them, then it's too late #-o
