Quote:
Kowtow, which is borrowed from kòu tóu in Mandarin Chinese, is the act of deep respect shown by kneeling and bowing so low as to have one's head touching the ground. An alternative Chinese term is ketou, however the meaning is somewhat altered: kòu has the general meaning of 'knock', whereas kē has the general meaning of "touch upon (a surface)", tóu meaning head.

In Han Chinese culture, the kowtow is the highest sign of reverence. It was widely used to show reverence for one's elders, superiors, and especially the Emperor, as well as for religious and cultural objects of worship. In modern times, usage of the kowtow has become much reduced.

We already, and have always had photographic licenses as well as the much coveted London Taxi drivers badge.

It's just Terry's green eyes can't see that.

Anyone can have a photographic minicab license, those with the knowledge of our great capital and with the commitment to study it for three years can have the taxi badge as well.

Tradition means little to the disorganised minicab trade, but it means lots to us, so well defend it.

But the issue here is organised touting has reached London's finest in their hour of greed, for sure its always happend but not at the astronomical levels now being observed wonder if GBC does it ?? how much do you rent out for GBC :?: :?: :?:

You penned the same old tosh in that Micky mouse magazine about 10 years ago, you couldn't substantiate the allegations then, and doubt you can now.

Quiet day up at GMB towers?

I'd be more concerned at your side of the trade Terry, it's in freefall.

They will no doubt argue that it's a matter of tradition.

They could of course have both if it's important to them.

Does a London cabbie's green badge or yellow badge for that matter have a 25-foot turning circle too?

I suppose that would depend on the cabby it's attached to

I should also add that in London, we have several thousand rental taxis owned by proprieters opposed to licensed London taxi drivers.

Being a proprieter is completely different to being a London licensed taxi driver.

Whilst you have to be 'approved' by Tfl to show you have the funds to run and maintain a taxi, that's about it. No crb etc.

Garage mechanics have been caught working in the past in these rental cabs. With the advent of the yellow and green IDs in the front and rear screen, this activity has been all but stopped.

Ignoring your usual low life abusive reply, the fact many cab drivers have an A-Z PDA or sat nav unit installed is simply that's it's a useful tool, the fact that it's present, and unlike Minicab drivers, we don't rely on them for navigation.

Many trips take me out unto the suburbs and beyond.

I had a Woking onto Farnborough on Friday night, so it's very useful for that, plus that little jaunt out into the country earned me more then some if your members make in a week.

I have the A-Z installed on my iPad which is installed in my Taxi.

As for photographic id, we're well represented, if we want to keep our badges, we will be keeping them. We don't cave in like the GMB. I can tell you for a fact, we WON'T have photo IDs replacing our badges in 2013!

Aa little footnote Terry, you really need to calm down with your venomous replies, more and more members of TDO are blocking you, this will eventually result in you basically talking to yourself as no one will see and posts from you. Bit of a waste of time eh?

GBC you old goat I will plead guilty to winding you up a bit with the [edited by admin] comment.

I realise that of course when yer edding for yokelsville the SAT NAv is helpfull, no doubt cruising down to Woking brought in plenty of £££££££££ good luck to yer, but me main point is that many cab drivers now routinely use sat nav for most jobs at night during weekends I believe theres plenty of impersonation going and to be truthfull I wouldnt expect you to be involveld in it or many cab drivers i know! but the numbers doing it are growing and its been noticed!

as for what PH earn thats their fault working for buttons theyve been told often enough how to deal with the parasites who run PH firms.

2013 is when I expect you to be wearing photographic ID time will tell ??

As for members of TDO blocking off debate hardly surprising given the mentally inadequate's so prominent on here but I appreciate the advice obviously they aint as thick skinned as they would like to appear  Most of the abuse is just intended to provoke nothing like a good row in my book and obviously their incapable of serious debate seen loads of it over the years =D>

I'd say the majority have some firm of navigation device fitted, let's face it Its free on most smart phones anyway so why not.

I still say that we're not relying on it for navigating our main work area, yes for obscure roads in bromley or romford, but not for the 6 mile knowledge area.

I know you like some banter terry, and I'm very much aware you love a reaction, I just think you can bring more to the board as a representative of the Minicab industry than calling people names.
I used to get sucked in a few years ago with heated exchanges, now that I know it's just your way of having a bit of a joke opposed to being hateful, I just smile.

Some don't though.

Some potential members don't !

Just saying.

As for us loosing our coveted metal badges for a piece of A2 laminated card, well I think we'll agree to disagree on that, there hasn't even been any mention from ltph about a consultation yet, and 2013 is about 4 weeks away.
