Cwmbran ex-taxi driver jailed for sex assaultsA FORMER taxi driver was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being found guilty of a string of indecent assaults against a young girl.
Timothy Foster, 44, of Cocker Avenue, Cwmbran, was found guilty of four sample counts, which included kissing a girl under 13, touching her sexually and making her touch him.
During the sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday, prosecutor Matthew Roberts read out a victim impact statement in which the complainant described needing treatment after suffering from depression and low self-esteem following the incidents.
Defence barrister Heath Edwards said that despite Foster having access to children in his past job as a taxi driver, this was his only offending. He was of otherwise clean character.
He described the defendant as being “extremely unwell”, suffering from “a plethora of medical conditions,” that will shorten his life. Mr Edwards said: “Every day he takes a cocktail of medicines and will find it difficult in custody.”
Judge Patrick Curran said that while the jury found Foster guilty of four counts, he was acquitted of more serious and “graver” charges.
He sentenced Foster to consecutive terms of three years for indecent assault, where he touched the complainant sexually, and six months for the count where he made her touch him sexually.
There were also sentences of two months and four months for kissing the complainant, to run concurrently.
Foster will be on the sexual offenders’ register for life. Judge Curran said: “You are affected by ill health, which will make prison all the more punishing.”
