I think it's an excellent idea but personally I'd wait til after Christmas, do your homework in the meantime, get the memorable number, find a suitable base etc and for a system as Sussex says contact Bill you won't get a better system and at such a reasonable cost. Prepare a business plan don't just do it plan it properly

Nowadays it could be up and running in 30 minutes using PDA's or hitech phones, and could be run from a back bedroom (I know of one here that is), so long as there is no nusiance caused, then move to an empty shop (plenty about) or unit as and when, PH needs an ops licence usually, HC usually dont

Operating staff here are on between £8.50 - £16.00 per hour depending on hours worked e.g day shift/night shift/mid week/weekend. You shouldn't need 4 staff permanently to control a fleet of 50 cars even if they are out all at the same time (which they won't be) a skilled operator can control up to 80 at a time and that's what you pay for @ £16 per hour.

at an established company isnt it all done witha click of a mouse,i know we get sent to the most stupid of places to pick up punters ie under the tower in the illuminations cud easily take an hour to get there from less than a mile away some jobs you know have got black written all over them.

That's as maybe but you still need radio contact with drivers and an experienced operator wouldn't be sending you on a wild goose chase and would know a better pick up point. It's lazy operators that click a mouse and don't care about how the driver is supposed to get to the customer. We get calls all weekend from punters to pick up at clubs in Liverpool, which would take a good while to get to them because of the traffic, the operator just moves the customer to an easier and better pick up point explaining why to the customer. This system has worked well for years and doesn't seem to effect the pick up at all.

that would mean perhaps 1 of our directors doing some proper training and well that aint gonna happen they fire the best operator on the strenght of a p155ed up punters word or was it that as a shareholder he was rumoured to be thinking of running for a director and he was very well liked by the drivers.

Your problem here in bpool mate is getting the regular punters away from what they use allready. I presume you work for ccabs by the sound of it ? Your biggest competion is premier who rely on hevy discounts. We have the app on the streets and believe me its hard to take new customers on.Trouble here is theres not too many disatisfied punters, you dont struggle for a cab any time of the day or night. Good luck

You dont have to be cheap, you have to provide a service, nice cars, nice drivers, people will pay a premium for it, having said that hack rates are usually higher than private hire so PH already has a head start, who wants to walk to a rank when a PH can be called up to the door? Get a punter to travel in a nice car and he wont go back to a WAV he doesnt need will he, ive seen it plenty of times, and they are happy to pay extra time after midnight and bank holidays despite what the rumour mill says
