was given on Wed night, but I waited till tonight to relay it to good folk on here.

I was approached by the co-owner of a rival firm and warned off trying to "poach" his drivers. He reckoned one of my fellow directors had offered a radio to one or two of his (less than) happy throng. (he had, but I digress  ) Anyway he went on to say that he hadn't tried to poach our drivers when they started up (no, he took almost half the fleet of his then present company :doubt: ) so we shouldn't try and take any of "his". If we persisted in doing so he was in a position to offer our drivers a free radio. #-o (I wonder if his partner felt the same  ). Anyhoos I spoke to one of the "targets", tonight, who informed me that far from being flattered by his "boss's concern, he was of a mind to tell him to stick it, and come over to us. So should I be afraid of losing numerous drivers to his benevolent firm (free radios at busiest time of the year  ) or just do what I've been doing since his little talk, which is........

Take him down a dark alley and thrash him with a radio. Problem solved.

Drivers will always go where they think they will get the best deal.

There's 3 companies in the town and about 40 shades of (green) grass, if you listen to some drivers.

If I were a driver at a company and I had been with them through thick and thin, I would not be too happy if new drivers were paying less than me for the privilege. The grass would suddenly look greener on the other side to me. And so the circle begins.

So long as everyone gets an equal benefit there should be no problem surely?

How can it be equal if some are paying more than others?

So everyone gets a free month. Who pays the bills that month?

new joiners get 1 free month, every new joiner, so everyone gets it when they join

for those already on the circuit who didnt get a free month a deal could be made (at the owners discretion)

because of the difficulty in recruiting drivers we already offer 3/4 rent for a period to new entrants. this was agreed by all the shareholders. only provision being anyone in the company when the scheme started couldn't leave and return on a cheap radio, and anyone who got the deal couldn't get it a second time. we still have difficulty recruiting. BTW a free radio is not an option.
