First time I've posted on the forum, but I've been watching some of the comments for some time now. Seems mad to me that London is the only big authority hanging onto the reduced turning circle, and the restricted vehicle choice is obviously unfair on our London cabbies. Time for action guys - so I've started a government e petition asking for regulation 181 to be removed from the London COF. It's pointless trying to hang on to this outdated rule - especially when the only current option open to guys in London is a £42,000 MB Vito!!! Madness. Have a look, sign if you agree, promote it on all social media if you want to support and let's hear what people think.........the web address for the petition is:
http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/43415
Thanks
rbm

You don't have to be a London cabbie to lend support, it's open to all and any help we can get would be appreciated. Thanks, rbm

Does the Government have any say in this matter? I would have thought that it was outside their remit.

The government have to get involved in this, a free market is being restricted and that can only be done on grounds of safety - and rule 181 has been thrown out by all the other authorities as there's no proven safety benefit.
As for leaving the London cabbies to buy LTI product, they can't even do that - LTI aren't allowed to sell anything at present! The only choice left to them is the MB Vito at £42,000 and they're understandably p***ed off with the situation.....
Please sign up and help them get a choice.

Why do the Government "have to get involved"? It is a matter for London not a matter for the country. How many of the drivers in London have been on here stating that they want things to stay as they are?

I wish you well, and hope you get loads of folks to sign up.

But, and it's a big but, I will be amazed if it's gets past 100.

The trade is chock-a-block full of apathy.

Hi Tico
Thanks for commenting, but it really does matter - especially if LTI goes bust. With LTI out of the picture, London cabbies have only one new vehicle choice - the £42,000 Vito - no other vehicle will satisfy the COF. It's mad. Why can't London follow all the other authorities? What are they protecting, an outdated 'iconic' vehicle?
