My daughter who is an auxiliary nurse, gave another nurse a lift home last night, just before she got to his destination he had a massive heart attack in the car, she immediately administered CPR on him until the ambulance arrived, due to to him being 6/8 and 20 stone they nearly had to remove the roof to get him out but they eventually manged to get him out without doing that
What would she have done regarding insurance if the roof had to come off???
Sadly he died this morning

Guessing, but a lot would depend what cover she had and the value of her car, plus if she decided to actually claim, if shes fully comp+protected NCB and a £2000+ car then shes gonna claim, if shes 3rd party and a £500 car the odds are she wont

I recall a local lass years ago in a panic, she was being ridden with great gusto in a car, in the local lovers woods, the guy was on top and his back went solid, couldnt move, eventually the fire brigade had to cut the roof off, she was in bits once the guy was removed and away to hospital, she was sobbing "my car, my car" and a fire brigade officer said "never mind love, claim off your insurance" to which she replied "but how do I explain it to my husband?"........

I suppose she could have claimed against the Fire Brigade, or her insurance might have had to meet the bill.

You can't claim off the Fire Brigade when they take the roof off, the brigade work on orders from the paramedics on ease of access, if the paramedics say "we need room to work on them" they'll take the roof off.

What an awful thing to happen. If your daughter had comprehensive cover I think, and I stress think, it would be covered. My doubt is based on the fact that removal of the roof is a deliberate act whereas insurance is normally restricted to accidental damage.

I have in the back of my mind that some insurance companies are now excluding claims for roof removal if the car wasn't otherwise a write off. I'll try and find out more.

Ok to help the car is a 59 plate Astra with FC insurance

Just when you thought insurance companies couldn't get any lower. So you end up with a car with no roof, effectively a write-off, and they'll only pay out for the accident damage

My niece skidded on black ice last month, nothing serious a few bruises and twisted ankle, but the brigade took the roof off because her foot was stuck under the pedals and the paramedics couldn't get her out (on a spinal board). She'd only just passed her test a month earlier

Not exhausted this yet, but not looking good! Roof removal is a deliberate act therefore probably not covered. Still awaiting a response from those in the know. Gone away to think some more aboput it.
