When the Tories split up British Rail they created several companies, they created Train Operating Companies, ROSCO's (Rolling Stock Companies), track owners like Railtrack and Network Rail, land companies etc etc making it more expensive for the Train Operating Companies to operate who have to lease the rolling stock from the ROSCO's and then have to pay a rental to run them on the lines which are owned by Network Rail.

Is there any wonder travelling by rail is expensive?

Nidge, the rail network wasnt CREATED as 1 nationalised company, each main line was built by investors (probably Tories) so in a way its all gone full circle................

They were all independent companies licensed by an Act of Parliament

F*****G TRAINS! I arrived back from Spain this morning. I didn't think that I could make the train at 0915 so I booked on the 1027. The train was there in plenty of time and we go on at around 1010. At 1029 they told us that there was a fault and it couldn't be fixed so they were cancelling the train. We all got off and the train departed. We waited for an hour for the next one and that left on time. about an hour into the journey the train stopped at a station and the b@stard that left on the unfixable train got on. How the F**K did he get to that station when the train he left on was unfixable? Again F******G TRAINS!
