OK so the council can't set a maximum rate that PH can charge.

So why when I go for a pit-test do the LA do a meter test to check it's set to charge no more than the council rate (they insist that a meter is fitted at the time of the test)?
And why do I hear of PH drivers being called into licensing because a complaint of overcharging has been made?

I can only guess that it has been made a condition of your license. If that is the case it would be up to the Private Hire trade in your area to challenge the condition.

Arse about tit as usual time to establish a legally binding MINIMUM fare which it is an offence to undercut methinks, all rates open to negotiation above the minimum, when I was driving , if i felt lazy or tired and someone was desperate I'd charge double or treble for my inconvenience they dont like it WALK FFS YOUR SELLING A SERVICE YOU NAME THE PRICE SO LONG AS IT DOES NOT GO BELOW THE MINIMUM just like every other seller of products :D our product TRANSPORT.

Low fares undercutting is for philistines normally ex mob burkes like SKIPPY minimum fares is the way forward undercut LOSE your license thats what we will see ffs when you lot gonna get real =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

This had better not become a habit, but I actually agree with you on this one.

Ask them what powers give them the right to do the above, and what would they do if you had a meter set at a different rate?

I suspect because the council haven't got a f***ing clue what they are doing. Once again ask them exactly what section in what act is being breached?

If a PH overcharges, then that's a matter of contract not licensing.

Grandad its amazing what debate can achieve which is why I continously advocate that it takes place in an organised manner some unlikely agreements can be achieved and then activated =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>

"The London rate will do for me ", an admirable target for sure but how do you achieve it?

We are of course debating a minimum fare in a Licensing Area not Nationwide so the question remains given you want it! how are you going to get it in your area? obviously YOUR personal dictate is likely to be ignored by the council #-o so the solution is :?: Perhaps Grandad could help you out seeing your struggling so much :D hes in favor also of minimum enforceable fares :?:

Bus fares are of course totally irrelevant to this issue, perhaps you should water down the Diet Coke its obviously too much for you.
