If some of their lot didn't try in on, then no-one would have a problem.

But as many do, they will pay a price for it.

A price I may add that the taxi trade has been paying for over 160 years.

Of course if, and when they become licensed, they will be free to do ALL private hire work.

I doubt that it is most of them at the moment but you can rest assured that it will be all of them when they are licensed.

There are lots of Rolls Royce and Bentley motors that are younger than that being used, are you saying that they wouldn't be able to be used under your plan?

Did I not read somewhere that pre 1960 cars no longer need a MOT, so there would be no checks being made on these cars AT ALL.?

No, but post-60 would require a council plate

many REAL (old) quality wedding cars get trailered to events for shor useage

We could have had a similar discussion pre 2006 Road Safety Act, but we didn't.

In short we all (well most of us) agreed getting non-licensed vehicles into the licensed trade would be a good thing.

And IMO it has been a major success.

are (true) classic cars used just for weddings any threat to the PH/HC trade though?

I can't see them being used as pub and shop transport.

Maybe the top end of the market, but there ain't much of that about.

I can just see a 1920 Silver Ghost outside the Pig and Whistle or Ali Baba's Kebab shop at kicking out time...

Maybe not a silver Ghost but there are many other cars and many other functions where a previously unlicensed vehicle will now be working when licensed. For instance taking the wife/girlfriend or both to a health spa for a pampering day/weekend.

theres a useable word in the "wedding car" bit......

all i can see happening is the LA collecting a bit more money for speciality plates cos im sure no RR wants a big "PRIVATE HIRE" sticky sign on the door panels...
