Well, Ireland is an island too, which is even farther away from the continent and it has the Euro.
Norway is north of England and is definitely a part of Europe.
Finland is almost next to Moscow and it has the Euro.
Gosh, 1066 and the Norman rule over England must have been such a trauma...

I think if the Scots are having a vote on leaving the UK union, then I see no reason why the UK (or what's left of it by then) shouldn't also have a vote on leaving the EU union.

I'm more than happy to accept whatever happens, but for the record I would like to see the UK leave the EU, but not see Scotland leave the UK.

Im OK with Scotland leaving the UK after a vote IF its a total 100% economic break, and no English money is available to go north, if they are so cocky as to think they can go it alone lets see em do it

And of course, no Scottish money to prop up your delusions of grandeur and faded illusions of empire.

Yes, I´ve heard too, that after the oil finds Scotland is no longer depending on the UK.

Anyway, Sussex, I completely agree with you. There is so much bad blood about the EU, so why not have a referendum, why not leave the EU, see where it gets you. It´s better for all of us, better than sabotaging the EU, like always. Still I doubt is is likely, why, even the yanks would not back a leave.

I didn´t say Norway is EU, Wannabeahack, I said it is a part of Europe. As is Britain, as is Iceland, as is as part of Russia and even a part of Kazakhstan.

And there is no way back into isolationism, globalisation is not reversible nor is it something to be wished for as our problems are globally and can only be solved globally.

And as for economies, last time I checked there were still gloomy outlooks for UK-economy, whereas on the continent things begin to lighten up again. And German economy has always benefited greatly from the EU (unlike small people of course.)

utter tosh

the Scottish unemployed (is it still 70%?) get more in benefits from London than ever came out of a hole in the north sea (none of which are in Scottish waters are they?) Aberdeen just happens to be a handy operations base

and De Gaulle was a happy for England to fight his war for him while half his country were collaborating with the hun...

We should dump the EU and get back to our commonwealth trading partners, Australia, New Zealand and the USA, at least they speak our native tongue

i bet Japan invests more here than EU members, but they send us cheap labour i suppose....
