This may be true. However, I would refer the right Honourable Gentleman to the reply I gave earlier: sit there and read PACE!

If they're going to insist on plasying silly buggers, at least read what book they're trying to throw at you! Remember, most council meeting rooms are booked on a time slot basis, so if they've booked the room for say an hour and it takes you 3 hours to read and understand PACE, then the meeting gets terminated after an hour!

I agree the plod rarely tell you what you're being done for in advance and that you are being interviewed under PACE regs. again,ask for a copy, sit and read it. Chances are you'll be given a talking to and told to go away.

The police HAVE to tell you why you are being arrested/questioned. I.e, on suspicion of / in connection with blah blah blah.

Comments so far relate to what the Police can do. I thought here we were talking about Council Officers taking on the role of police, and how much of PACE can be used by them? I like the thought of spending meeting time perusing PACE and then saying you do not understand..in reality with pressure from LO it would take a strong minded individual to carry this through at risk of pi$$ing them off for round two.

Council Licensing Officers we all know like to sex up their authority...but what are their actual powers on the street in cold light of day?

PACE is specifically CRIMINAL acts, im not sure an LO can arrest you

But councils can use the guidelines, in fact I think it's a good idea to do it that way.
