This may be true. However, I would refer the right Honourable Gentleman to the reply I gave earlier: sit there and read PACE!

If they're going to insist on plasying silly buggers, at least read what book they're trying to throw at you! Remember, most council meeting rooms are booked on a time slot basis, so if they've booked the room for say an hour and it takes you 3 hours to read and understand PACE, then the meeting gets terminated after an hour!

I agree the plod rarely tell you what you're being done for in advance and that you are being interviewed under PACE regs. again, ask for a copy, sit and read it. Chances are you'll be given a talking to and told to go away. :-o

The police HAVE to tell you why you are being arrested/questioned. I.e, on suspicion of / in connection with blah blah blah.

Comments so far relate to what the Police can do. I thought here we were talking about Council Officers taking on the role of police, and how much of PACE can be used by them? I like the thought of spending meeting time perusing PACE and then saying you do not understand..in reality with pressure from LO it would take a strong minded individual to carry this through at risk of pi$$ing them off for round two.

I agree with your comments.

Wannabe posted P.A.C.E re the police...............is it the same for the L.As?

Now I know what to expect, I really could go down the line of p!$$ing them off.................I love mind games

I suspect you'll find ANY breach of the 1846 Act and the 1972(?)Act are criminal as they are tried in a magistrates court. While council officials can take your plate away, you can always appeal to the mags to get it back!

If you've been nabbed for something more sinister, ie something that may affect your next CRB or involve points on the licence, take a brief with you to the adjourned meeting after you've taken time to read PACE..

But councils can use the guidelines, in fact I think it's a good idea to do it that way.

From a personal point of view I disagree! Where else Or what other type of employment/job has to put up with such officious behaviour. If we are talking about out and out criminality, then I would agree that it should be used, but only by people who are within the judicial system, as it is, it will give L.Os a power trip and alienate drivers from them..............far too officious and heavy handed imho.

Do the Council use such methods within, for their own staff, for a potential court appearance?

What is wrong in using standard employers law to crack down on problems i.e warning, written warning, trouble?

Probably because you're not employed by the council!

You may well find that LO's, as well as other official like tax inspectors, DSS Inspectors and the like CAN interview people under caution, which of neccesity has to be done under PACE.
