Thanks for the reply lads, I think he thinks he will get off, looking right now I doubt he will. He is a self employed hack, no back ups, but oddly enough if one man bands can't do school run for what ever reason, the home to school transport have always obliged and helped out without penalty.. I guess he has well and truly messed up.

why "oddly"?.....

in 4 years ive not had to ask County to cover my run, ive had (and paid) subbies and still made a profit, too many havent got a head to screw on

your mate needs a business relationship with a few other operators, small and large, even to the point of subbing it out when not needed, pay them and they will be there when he needs them the most.

Unless of course you can guarantee a car will never breakdown, you will never be ill or some eeejit wont hit your car sunday night....

(and I didnt need a union to help me work that out.....brothers)

Why would you need one for that? It's not a union's job to run your business for you.

What possible advice could any union have given this chap when he had already committed the offence?

surely a union or even the NTA would have ensured he new his legal requirements and the risks and penalties likely for illegal activity :D :D

I will answer that save yer the bovver YES :D :D :D

The contract would have told him his legal requirements. He chose not to follow them and got caught. No union or association would have been able to stop him from doing it.

No one can stop an idiot being one BUT Unions can and do publish examples of such behavior as a warning to their members #-o #-o

sometimes It's hard to realize the utter stupidity of some on here ffs!!!

TT was saying that if the guy in question was in a union he would have been advised what to do.

Actually, it seemed to me he was saying he'd be advised on what not to do.

obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed

whats the 1 place you wouldnt use an unplated car in?

a school car park you visit every day, your known and theres 20/30 taxis in there every day....

and at pickup time you have to sit and wait....plus mum and dad of the pupil could have grassed him up

His contract would have told him what to do if he was unable to cover the run

1. He would have signed the contract to say he understood what the terms and conditions were
2. He breached said contract and unfrtunately for him now has to pay the consequences
3. Even if his private car was brand spanking new with zero miles it wont get him off the hook (no council will say "You have a brand new car, we wont need to licence/plate it")

In a similar vein, "someone" in my area lost his ph licence because of medical reasons (heart attack or similar). BUT, he carried on as though nothing had happened. This really pi$$ed off others in the area as he was already running a lot cheaper than most.

Eventually the LO was informed. He later got caught by the local plod with 6 punters in the car, the local pool team! It was reported he got banned for 6 months, points and a hefty fine for no insurance/no moT/no ph licence.

He's now threatening to splash the town with flyers exposing the "names" of those who grassed him up! A lot of us here are very worried (not). If you break the law to that extent, you are a danger to all and sundry and deserve to get caught.

It wouldn't be so bad if he's print the whole truth and nothing but the truth.."I was banned for driving with no taxi licence, no insurance and putting paying passengers lives at risk" but I doubt that woud happen, nor the fact the LO was after him for 3 months as were the BiB following 20 odd complaints from the others in the area!
