Hi everyone!
I have a 1996 Fairway Driver.
The metal around the front quarterlight windows is completely rusty, and I dread they'll come to pieces if I undo them.
I searched for some on Ebay but could not find any during the past few months...
Has anyone got spare "P" frames / front quarterlight windows in fair condition he/she is willing to sell?
I reside in France and can arrange my own courier.

Hi,
They all suffer from this I think. Mine was very bad but cabs made before 1989 come with lovely stainless steel ones that open. Try searching for a pair of these, phone all the suppliers on eBay if you cannot find some. They fit easily, all you have to do is cut a part of a metal quarterlight support between the inner and outer skin, not all of it, just 2 3rds.
I searched for quite a while but I found a pair and the cab looks much nicer and yes, the old ones disintegrated as I took them out! You need a rivet gun as the top of the frame has a pop rivet holding it to the frame.
Hope this helps, good luck

Hi!
Thanks Gary for your advice. In fact I've been searching high and low for these Austin/FX4 opening quarterlights, they're now fetching stratospheric prices (almost as much as half a whole cab), so I cooled down and I'm just looking for the ordinary ones, and if there's enough metal left to hold the glass in place, it's OK! :) :D

Are they from the FX4 only, or could they be found on another make of car?

If you have a fairway the quarterlight window is fixed - it opened on earlier models.

I doubt they are of another car, they were chrome and didnt rot like the fixed ones now.The best bit about them was you could turn them a full three quaters round and get a nice breeze coming into the front ! Wouldnt turn that much on newer fairways as would catch on your wing mirrors :D

The originals look very much like the channel etc on a Mk1 transit to me.
I doubt if LTI used a part unique to them, just the cheapest available that would fit.
Mine have pretty much dissolved into iron oxide along with much of the bodywork. I'll be taking them out soon (just slamming the door will probably do it) and replacing them.

I had them on my FX4S - they were great for a nice breeze and use as an ashtray when I was a smoker! They seem very like those on the BMC models such my first car a Morris 1100.
