Taxi Driver Online

Hi I`m thinking about applying for a HC licence in south west outside of Plymouth is there anyone on here working this area and can give me an idear on whats it like how much can i earn. I live just outrside of Plymouth.

you'd be better off working for a PH firm in the city.

we have many drivers who live out in the sticks but drive for taxifast because they know they can earn far more than they would staying local.

Thanks mate I know I can probelly earn more in Plymouth but I dont want the hassle, I would work less but earn less I would like to clear about 250 to 300 a week not lookingat making mega bucks.

I think your best bet is to talk to your local council, and maybe have a chat with the local cab firms.

the state of the cars is a good bet as to the money you can earn.
if they are a pile of rust. then thats a good reason for working somewhere else.

they all have to be under five years old so no clue there

your joking! i've seen some of the south hams HC in the city and they were right sheds!

So how does that work
If they are meant to be under five years old how come they can drive round in older cars

Perhaps they have the rule where the vehicle must be 5 years or younger at first submission for plate testing. then OK as long as it passes each year or every six months.

maybe it's best to give the council licencing dept a ring and pop in for a chat.

Yes mate I have been there, phoned them and got the application pack, was just wonderin g if there was any loopholes for getting round the five year old problem.

buy a car thats already plated as a south hams HC. i dont think theres much of a plate market for them.

I think it wouldn't be a good idea to start off with a motor over five years old.

It will cost you more in the long run, especially if you buy an existing PH/taxi.

I mean why would an existing plate holder want to be rid if the motor is sound?

i would always recommend you buy a new vehicle with a long warrenty.
when the warrenty runs out then bin if off to a newbie.

too true, i used to have a 97 mondeo, didnt cost me too much to buy, but it cost me an arm and a leg to keep it running and lost working days due to repairs.
i then got my self a nice 2 year old volvo and, apart from normal servicing and a pair of front tyres, its not cost me a penny in the last 20K miles due to faults or repairs.
