Six arrests after Middlesbrough minicab staff beaten 'with metal bars'

THREE men working for a Teesside minicab firm claim to have been attacked by a gang wielding metal bars.

A spokesman for the firm - Blueline 'Taxis' - says he believes the alleged attack was by people connected to the taxi trade.

And he said people at Blueline 'Taxis', which runs about 100 private hire cars from its base in Borough Road in Middlesbrough, felt threatened.

“This is not the first time this has happened. We had two people injured in an attack last autumn,” he said.

The spokesman said the Snowdon Road incident on March 28 meant the three injured men required hospital treatment.

“We fear for our safety. It is getting beyond a joke.

“At the end of the day it is the public’s choice which taxi firm they use. All we want is to do our job and be left alone.

“I am really sick about what has happened. We do not provoke anyone - we abide by the law.

“We feel threatened and we have families. We do not know what extreme measures might be taken against us next.

“Why are we getting picked on? Why is it just Blue Line 'Taxis'?” he said.

The spokesman said the three men involved in last week’s incident were still shaken.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said that following the incident, a number of Middlesbrough Council private hire licence holders have had their licences suspended.

Cleveland Police say six men have been arrested on suspicion of assault following a fracas in Snowdon Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said police were called to a report of a disturbance on Snowdon Road in Middlesbrough at around 4pm on Thursday, March 28.

“Around nine men were involved in the incident.

“Six men aged between 22 and 42 have been arrested on suspicion of assault and have been bailed pending further inquiries.”

The spokeswoman said a 43-year-old man suffered a broken nose and bruising to his face and body, a 33-year-old man suffered a large cut to his head which required stitches and bruising to his face and body and a 27-year-old man suffered cuts to his head which required staples at hospital and bruising to his face and body.

Any witnesses are asked to contact DC Phil Dawson at Middlesbrough CID on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Blueline again eh they seem to be good at winding up everyone from the council to their competitors
Judging by the number of times they seem to crop up on here

Blueline Middlesbrough is not the same company as the famous Blueline Newcastle. And I laughed when they said they had 100 cars. Lucky to count 50 cars, maybe 20 of them are fully working.
