Am going to have a go at it tomorrow, i've got a sneaking suspicion that the ignition switch is on it's way out, the rubber backing to it is hanging off so it appears someone has already been poking around back there.....

Found a few wires though if anyone knows what they are.....

These are all located behind the dash...

I'll post the other pics later and crack on with the fault finding........

Oh has anyone got any experience in removing the front wings? I'm basically starting at the front and working my way back when stripping my parts car......

The front wings unbolt.takes about ten minutes to take them off.Actually they aren't bolts, more like coarse threaded screws with a hex head.

Take the bolts/screws of inner panel /wheel arch, take bolts of front bracket that fixes to bumper iron. Then remove the bolts from wing channel and it will pull of (sorry unplug light and indicator !)Its probally going to be stuck with some silicon aswell ,so i usually scrape that off and resilicone it when replacing.

Hi,

I've removed the two bolts on the inner wing (connected to the bumper), two bolts from the front (under the headlight ) and three bolts along the top of the wings. There is a fourth bolt at the top of the wings near the water drain...... I presume taking the dust cover of the inner wheel arch will grant access to this? and that there are bolts attaching the outer wing to the body shell, are these also behind the dust cover?

I have checked the ignition and there is power there but no power is getting to the starter motor......does anyone know the layout of the wiring for the ignition to starter? does it go via an inhibitor on the gearbox? The large red wire is connected from the battery to the starter and has no breaks/corrosion etc however testing the smaller wire connected to the top of the starter shows no power so I am assuming the fault is in the wiring from the ignition to the starter?

I checked my donor car but the wiring loom appears to be different so no comparison there...... Am trying to follow the workshop manual wiring diagram but its all a bit gobbledegook at the moment....

Does anyone know what this is for? and what the 12v 30a relay is? (pic above), obviously the more loose ends I can eliminate, the better I can trace everything......

There are these two connectors also......

Yes there is an inhibitor relay in the engine bay, next to the two glowplug relays. It's there to prevent activating the starter motor on any position other than "P" or "N".
Check the inhibitor relay for corrosion (common problem) and always make sure you transmission lever is firmly pushed on "P" before turning the ignition key.

Hi all,

Just an update on the starting issue, having traced the wiring (orange wire) from the ignition to the starter motor it was a burnt out connector block behind the dash/centre console that was connected to brown wiring for the old immobiliser which had been disconnected, this then ran back up to the dissused jack plug and red dash light and also down throughh the centre console to the electrics in the back.Having replaced the connector block the taxi now starts on the button.

The next task is to get the odometer working, the mileage just will not turn and I know that this is a common fault, does anyone know a fix or a place where it can be repaired? I have taken the instrument cluster out of my donor car and it has the same issue so I want to have one repaired/fixed, all warning lights, gauges and speedo work fine.

Thanks again for all the help.

They stick usually on three hundred, four hundred thousand as when all the numbers try and turn at once probally better to try and find replacement one.
