We have a "cannot pick up from a set distance from a working rank" here (the distance I forget).
Unless you have a similar condition you are free to pick up any street hail or booking.

50 metres

As it is an individual "Marshall" doing the damage without the authority to act as he is, I am wondering if a notice issued to prosecute/sue the individual might just be enough to stop him/them i.e damage to earnings etc

Maybe, but I wouldn't go down that route.

Make an official complaint to the council.

I cannot remember off hand the exact wording but, legally they are correct.
You cannot pick up on the same street or in view of a rank, unless pre booked but, if your on the rank you can legally take the punters as its there prerogative what cab they choose

Any idea where this comes from Skippy. Council are also trying to herd the public a hundred metres or so to a rank, but public are ignoring signs and flagging down taxis at normal location. Causing a lot of confusion. This weekend taxis just went back to old rank to save the aggro.

You will have something smiler, but dating back to nineteen canteen

The driver of a taxi, while he is in charge of the taxi, shall not canvas or importune in any public place or street for employment.

Unless the licensing authority makes specific arrangements for particular stances, the driver of a taxi shall take up his station on the stance in order of arrival and at such distance from the vehicle in front to ensure that persons walking may conveniently pass between them, and when a taxi is driven off a stance, the driver of the taxi immediately behind shall draw up his vehicle to take the place vacated and the taxi drivers on the stance behind shall draw up their vehicles in a like manner. A taxi driver will not cause or permit his taxi to wait on a taxi stance if the stance already contains the maximum number of taxis permitted on that stance.

A phone call to our L.A and I find out that if I have a complaint, that I must contact a company called........"City Center Management". Apparently our L.A do not run the " Taxi Marshalls", anyway a letter has been posted to them.
