Lothian & Borders were inundated with phone calls earlier this evening by panic stricken citizens in various areas of the Edinburgh area believing they were being invaded by an Alien force. Some residents had packed their belongings and were fleeing the city in sheer panic. An investigation was under way immediately and Lothian & Borders can confirm that the "Orange Glow" that was visible in certain ares was due to groups of Central Radio Taxis waiting for work with their hire lights on. L&B are urging residents to return to their homes and where ever possible to use black out blinds to minimise the light.

When CRT where asked to comment, a man who did not wish to be named said "I Kennowt"

Out of date...there ain't no Lothian & Borders these days, it's now all Police Scotland.

Well after hearing the reports back from day one I think it's safe to say this Airport contract will be a success.

All smiles I gather from owners, drivers, marshalls, the professionals and the ones that normally moan their tits off.

Great work City Cabs......I'm booked up for Cancun!

Well that's shift one finished and sorry to dissapoint you Jazzy B, not a Norton in sight. 5 fares done from the Airport, lowest was £15. Artur sign me up for Cancun ma son!

I'm Confused...easy I know.

But on the Edinburgh airport website under the heading Taxis theres three options:

"Taxis

There are three options for taxis and cabs at Edinburgh Airport, and separate ranks for each.

Private hire Airport taxis are managed by Onward Travel and are located outside the east (UK Arrivals) end of the Terminal building. Tel +44 (0)xxxx xxxx xxxx
Pre-booked private hire taxis can be arranged via Edinburgh City Private Hire. The collection point / rank is located on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park, directly opposite the Terminal. Tel +44 (0)xxxx xxxx xxxx
City "Black Cabs" can be found outside outside the east (UK Arrivals) end of the Terminal building."

Now the First one is shown as Private Hire airport Taxis....now is that Private Hire cars or is it Taxis?

the next one reads Pre-Booked Private hire Taxis...now are they Different to pre booked Private Hire Taxis like the first lot of Private Hired Taxis shown above it..or are they Taxis that have been Pre booked?

Lastly it Says City "Black Cabs"..these I guess must be Taxis and not PH's maquerading as taxis...but is there any need for them if you can get ranked up Private Hire Taxis or pre booked private hire taxis which are already at the airport in readyness..

It's no wonnder Joe public cant tell Taxi from PH if the airport and its suppliers cant tell them apart either. #-o

The "private hire taxis" are the PH. It's the same all over edinburgh with PH firms calling themselves taxis. It's annoying as the customers then think a PH is a taxi. They still have to be booked before they jump into the car

Pre booked is for cars and taxis that are pre booked. i.e. corporate/contract customers, taxis and PH from companies that don't have access to the ranks at the airport and also taxi/PH firms from outside of edinburgh.

What have the following got in common?

A granny returning from seeing her grandchild for the first time.
A young couple, newly married, returning from honeymoon.
A Bulgarian family, coming to the promised land with new hope for their future.
An eminent scientist, visiting the city to attend a seminar which could help environmental armageddon.
A renowned doctor, presenting a paper at conference which could help end the scourge of cancer.
A top level banker working to redress the economic disaster facing us all.
A politician, returning from representing us at Westminster, or Brussels.
An average Joe with his family, just desperate to get home after a deserved family holiday.

BOOM!

They were all in a queue.

And the queue was long.

And no taxis were available.

And the terrorist knew it would be so.

=D> City of Edinburgh Council.

But the Airport PH and TAXIs are along by the East side of the Airport where the Taxis Currently rank or at the Old Drop off Area which was gated off a year or so ago....and every body else has to fight over the few Pre-booked Taxi/PH spaces that are located to the west outer side of the multi story car park, just outside it in the short stay car park, Is that Right.....the Carpark where the Parking Prices have rocketed since last year.

It's small wonder that I recommend Newcastle airport over Edinburgh to my clients, There's never any grief there, nice and Simple it is. :?

No they're all unfortunate enough to share a city with an absolute bell end like you!

Taxis and PH are still using the existing ranks. The new rank (old drop off) doesn't take effect until July

Airport greed?......That Old Drop off would have been I deal as a general quick Pick up point for all through traffic for Taxi, PH and Joe public alike, they could have charged a quid a time too.

Maybe they Missed a Trick their, seperate Set Down and pick up areas would have netted them still further money.

Only because I despise scum like you and artur. Enjoy.

I know I do because both of your inane reactions are only about you and your selfish greed.

What you've both shown is that you care nothing for the safety of the airport's customers. But then neither do they. Nor does the council.

It would seem that only I and the skull do.

Isn't that strange =D>

Look, PH ARE taxis. They say it. The council agrees they are. The customers know they are. And they do the same job as hacks.

So, what's your problem. PH are taxis. End of. get over it.

And they are unrestricted. Unlike hacks. So they expand while hacks flounder, denying drivers the right to their own vehicle to protect privilege, plate values and high rentals, which are passed onto the customer.

This is what Scottish nasty party policy demands.

And, do you know what? Most of the public don't give a torss.

And do you know what else? The hack trade allowed this to happen?

And do you know what else? The latest City Cabs venture with PH just gives them new credibility and makes all our hack situation much worse.

That's why we're all HACKed off.

Even if it was an unrestricted market, the queue at the airport would've still been there. The fault was with the barrier system? Not lack of cabs. In fact, if it was a free for all, the queue could be worse as more cabs would've been trying to access the rank to look for a fare

You cab despise all you want. I only pity you. You've fought this losing crusade for nearly a decade ( that I know off) and are absolutely no where closer to your objective. All the hours wasted writing on forums and penning letters and emails to councillors, politicians, newspapers and the cab office has got you absolutely nowhere

But ph aren't taxis Jasbar and the council certainly don't see them as taxis
Why is there a difference in applying for a licence on the councils application forms if they where the same
