Taxi drivers ready to paint the town blue for annual fundraiser

IF YOU’RE planning to take a taxi on Friday, make sure you give a little extra to support this year’s Blue Day.

Cab drivers for Aqua Cars are supporting this year’s fundraiser.

Taking place on Friday, it sees people from across the area host blue-themed events to raise cash for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.

Dave Campbell, assistant manager for Aqua Cars, said: ‘Blue Day is something we are interested in doing.

‘We do a lot of charity work for The Rowans Hospice too.

‘The Tom Prince Cancer Trust was one that we wanted to get involved in. It’s a good charity.

‘It’s a brilliant day. All the kids and workplaces get excited about wearing something a bit different at work or at school. It’s a fun day when all the staff come in wearing Pompey tops.

‘The majority of people do wear Pompey tops because Tom Prince was heavily involved with Portsmouth Football Club.’

As well as dressing in blue, staff will have the option of tying blue and white ribbon to the aerials of their cars.

And customers can make donations to the charity by passing money on to the drivers.

Aqua Cars will match the money raised by staff and customers on the day.

Dave said it’s a popular fundraiser for all the staff.

‘They all know about it,’ he said.

‘It’s something we have done for a few years anyway. It’s a fun day and creates awareness and reminds us not to forget Tom Prince.’

To get involved, you need to register by visiting tomprince.co.uk.

The News will automatically be notified and you will be added to our roll of honour.

Alternatively, call (023) 9262 2131 and we can register on your behalf.

Also, the charity is now taking text donations. Send a text to TPCT13 with the amount you wish to donate and then send it to 70070.

Meanwhile, tickets are still available for the Big Blue Gig which is taking place at the Wedgewood Rooms on Friday.

Local bands Kojak’s Revenge and the Bog Rolling Stones will be performing.

Tickets are £8 each with all of the proceeds going to the Trust.

To buy tickets visit wedgewood-rooms.co.uk, or you can buy at the door.
