Obviously, being a non smoker all my life, I don't have a clue about these things, but are these e cigs just a replacement for proper ones or are they meant to be an aid to giving up completely?

They can be used for either.

My opinion is that you are swapping one nicotine delivery route for another.

OK they may be healthier and cheaper but as the craving increases so might the use of the e-cig. Unless you have good willpower and actively try to reduce their use you may find yourself using the e-cigs for the rest of your life, and on an increasingly frequent basis.

The EU is currently investigating e-cigs as they reckon they may be more addictive than ordinary cigarettes and the greater intake of nicotine may be more harmful than that got from cigarettes (although overall still healthier). They also reckon you are more likely to go back to smoking normal cigs when using e-cigs than other stop smoking products.

Correct, and the same can be said for patches, gum, inhalators and any other form of NRT currently paid for by the NHS or available privately.

You mean like cigarettes and other tobacco products which have been proven to be harmful (or alcohol, for that matter)?

I personally have no increased cravings, in fact I have no cravings at all.
I am using less liquid and at a lower strength than I was 4 months ago.
And of course it's infinitely less harmful and less expensive than my tobacco habit was.

The EU are currently investigating but they are doing so at the behest of the tobacco industry and the big Pharma companies who both stand to lose a fortune from the popularity of e-cigs.
Not to mention certain governments who make a fortune in tobacco duty every year

Maybe, but the lads using those things down here are both financially better off, and IMO less likely to drop dead.

Although one or two are getting a bit tubby.

I'm using mine less than a normal ciggie, I don't find it addictive one little bit and haven't got any increased appetite. I think I've broke even on mine now, I've been on it since Monday 20 Benson and Hedges are £8.50, I paid £39.99 for the set up so in my reckoning I'm £4.25 in profit and the rubbish that's coming off my lungs after 5 days is unreal, I didn't know the lungs were self healing until someone told me today.

As for them investigating the nicotine addiction, there's more nicotine in Nicorete chewing gum, mouth spray and patches than there is in a Vapour ciggie.

The Government are losing hundreds of millions of pounds in duty already, they've got to put some scare tactics in there to add some duty haven't they?

Vaping is the future and the government had better get used to it.

8 weeks now :D :D , but I got the ones in the above link due to the ones with the wicks at the top in the original ego system burning out in about 4 days  , the ones in the link have lasted 4 weeks so far, I think because the coils and wicks are always wet

Just ordered 2 of them Skip they like you say they look better due to the wick being at the bottom. for £9 for the two you can't go wrong.

Which bit ?
So you disagree that you're still inhaling one of the most addictive substances known,
Or that unless you actively try to reduce their use (e-cigs) you'll never get off them,
Or that the EU not me says that e-cig users may be inhaling more nicotine than normal smokers and that alone could have health issues,
Or that again the EU not me says that more e-cig users return to smoking ordinary fags than users of other smoking aids.

I was only expressing an opinion and as everyone using them seems to be happy I wish you all good luck.

The crunch comes in 6-12 months time when everyones managed to not only stop smoking but kick the e-cig habit as well.

I think these things are allowing a lot of people to finally stop smoking. \:D/

Are they perfect, maybe not, but they are working and more folks are going to live longer due to them.

And that will do for me.

Nope, never in dispute. I think it's safe to assume that everybody using e-cigs on here is already a nicotine addict.
We are well aware that we have swapped one form of nicotine for another.

TBO that goes without saying. But yes that's correct too.
It's also true that using an e-cig is far less harmful than smoking tobacco cigarettes, which contain 100's of chemicals known to cause cancers and other medical issues.

Quote:
Or that the EU not me says that e-cig users may be inhaling more nicotine than normal smokers and that alone could have health issues,

What health issues would that be? And are they even significant compared with the health issues associated with continuing to smoke tobacco?

Do you have some evidence to back this claim up? Sorry, does the EU have some evidence to back this claim up?

Wish you'd make up your mind. Is it the EU's opinion or yours?

That assumes that everyone actually wants to kick their nicotine habit.
Some don't, they just want to switch to a safer method of continuing with their habit.
What right has anyone to deny them that?

What exactly are you using? Some of them, especially the throw away ones are pretty awful.

I've been using Skycig for over a year now, I'm spending around £50 a month on the Crown tobacco bold flavour, I'm happy with this system as with real smoking I got used to it !!! Changing brands or types is always going to cause sore throats, dryness etc.

I was spending around £400 a month on real cigarettes so its a no brainier, I tried everything to stop but the problem was I didn't want to stop, e-cig is the compromise !

Sometimes I over do the vaporiser but its doing me no harm, I smoke without fear and with the freedom to smoke, I no longer fear smelling like some punters, you know the type, walking cigarettes, yuk.

It's a no brainer for me and the money I saved pays for half my finance on my new taxi, the other half is paid for by being more fuel efficient, I'm about £800 a month better off as a result of using Sycig, it tastes better when you add it all up.

Highly recommended for those who don't want to stop.

There's a new shop opened up near us that are selling the caromizers for £3.50, they've got a decent wick in them to, nearly right to the bottom. The juice is only £1.50, albeit a little bit thin but it does the job.
