it may be a disaster it may not .no one will really know for a year or so.

A year or so  ffs

i mean we will deffo know if it was worth it by then
the way it was going we dof been in trouble

Judging by your comments I can only assume you think it's a good move, I'm interested to know if the drivers got any discounts from their settle or anything for remaining loyal to the company?

the reason the blue boys do airport runs so cheap is he gets them to sign up for them on a voluntory basis and only these people get other out of town work.

They went down to a £100 or is it as I read it? How much per mile is it after the initial £2?

Theres a good chance that will be the next step, its allready become personell and the opposition is owned by the one man who just colle ts rents ! As for nighthawk and his "making a killing"on airport work.Blue cabs to Manchester airport 120/130 mile round trip, minimum of a hour and quater each way.How much ? Forty five quid ! If your a driver your on half of that, really are making a killing

They get returns about 70% of the time, and if there isn't a return available the office usually give them a sweetener on the way back (Preston or the Fylde villages etc.). And if you're taking a minimum of an hour and a quarter to do a Manchester airport run from Blackpool, you really need to tune up your milk float. Last taxi I took there was setting off for another job 55 minutes after arriving outside my house.

Returns 70% of the time, really ? Sweetner jobs on the way back ? Id need more than a sweetner to be running there for 45 quid ! If you want to think this is how it works so be it.The difference with the blue firm is the boss is good at marketing his firm for new drivers, gets them financed up and they find it hard to get out.60/65 miles for forty five quid, take your diesel out, feckin great money

Not sure you've ever left Blackpool, but when people go on holiday they tend to come back. Both Premier and Whitesides have an agreement with a pub near the airport to sit in their car-park while they wait for returns (the landlord is a contributor to another forum and has said as much) so they're getting a good number of returns rather than coming back empty all the time.

As would I, but a modern diesel saloon is a different proposition than flogging my old TX1 down to Manchester. And it's still better than doing a couple of £2 jobs and sitting around for the rest of two hours, as some of the red lot will have us believe they do.

Doesn't matter what I think, I learned nothing in 20 years of doing the job apparently. The red lot have still committed suicide though, and I shall be back with huge smugness when I'm proven right. Until then, au revoir and safe travels.

What is the relevance of being able to wait in the pub car park,if it was such lucrative work why do they need cars to 'volunteer' for out of town work ? Couple of two quid jobs in two hours,so are you saying the red firm are on roughly 2 quid a hour ? It doesnt matter wether youve been driving 2 or 20 years to me,your starting to sound like a PR machine for the blues, enjoy your retirement :D

So if they reduced them £100 how much do they pay now :?[/quote]

£290 --subs
£10--- credit card machine
£30 to 40 ---discounts(so the directors can keep their cushdy account work)

just to clear up i didnt want a reduction in fares but it was failing big time so i understand why it happened, either it will work or it will force drivers away and the company will find its proper level with the right amount of cars instead of the crazy amount its got now,or its a gonner

If that is per week then drivers are being ripped off for that as well. Ours is £25 per month for 1 machine. If they have machines in all the cars I would think that the company will be getting a discount on the price as well.
