Just heard on the grapeline re those drivers that choose to go for York GNER taxi permit have had a quick inspection of troops, 2 drivers have been told they do not qualify for permit, basicly they are too scruffy in dress sense and attitude, no boots to be worn, only dress shoes in black, no jewellery to the neck, ears or wrist, one driver was told to remove gold, wedding ring accepted, no tattoos showing, no beards, no unshaven shadow, no hats to be worn unless it is the whippet type flat cap, no pony tails, no logos at all on blue shirt doesn't matter how small, trousers must be trousers in black, they are coming down like a ton of bricks, first offence 3 day suspension from the railway rank, next time slung off the rank with no coming back and loose your 500 quid.

no medical doctors notes accepted for those who have a problem wearing a tie

It seems to me at this time, the women taxi drivers can dress differently,or are at the moment, but not quite clear on that as yet.

I suppose its their land so they can dictate the terms and conditions, but there must be plenty of pukka work for drivers to put up with that.

But I suppose a case could be made for all of us to dress smartly, yes even PH.

at brighton station some of the drivers look scruffier than the big issue sellers.
a few years ago the station had to write to them to ask them to stop p***ing up the wall.
the public loo was about 30 yards away.
slobs absolute slobs. [-X

It was tried 6 or 7 years ago the whole lot came out and blocked the Stn as the boss of the taxi company was on holiday, 38 shareholders run the taxi business down at the station, with about 120 cabs including independants useing the place It caused a lot of panic , with GNER pleeding for them to come back in, the boss of the taxi company came back off holiday the next day, he shouted back to work lads, got his shareholder men back in and others followed, it was back to normal

The reason why is that the taxi shareholder company gets all the railway credit work, a lot of good work, they don't want to loose it, but hey in law they can only give it to hackney carriages, but they choose to go down the road of paying for it by means of permits

I'm not involved with the shower at the station, as said before that station rank could being on another planet and stay there.

They can give it to who they like, and in many places they do.

In fact I think a lot of railway/tube work in London is now done by licensed vehicles other than the black cabs.

But they shouldn't really have too much to moan about, because didn't some of them take a load of work off their Midlands brothers recently? [-X

So if i'm Muslim, and wear a beard because of my religion, what would GNER do then? Nothing I suspect, unless they wanted a million pound law suit against them.

Similarly if i wore a turban as a sikh, one wonders how far their 'headwear' rule would go before they backed down.

Anyone can change their religion.

Worth a thought.

Not quite Sussex.

The LUL contract went from ComCab to Xeta / Radio Taxi's earlier this year.

Now because Geoff Kaley (xeta) is also in bed with the little people (as are other radio circuits) for the first time there was a possibility of Minicabs covering the work hould there have been a shortfall in Taxi's available.

To the best of my knowledge, that has not happened yet.

Kaleys company Xeta went bust, and is now under the wing of Radio Taxi's, Geoff Kaley is now scribing in the Taxi Times, still banging on about the knowledge.

ComCab retain the Network Rail contract.

I think it's more a case of GNER trying to echo what would happen if the market was competitive.

And presumably they have exception for religous wear or whatever, if anyone wants to convert to Islam so that they can wear a beard then that's up to them :D

is it asking too much for drivers not to look like a sack of s***?
all the gobby ones down here arent fit for the tip.
the only time they have a wash is when it rains.

yes but who has the qualifications for judging the fashion show of how cabbies dress, your thoughts could be completely different to another persons thoughts and so on. some look like a bag of s*** no matter wot gear you put them in. I myself have no real dress sense, I'll admit that. I go to work in practical dress to which "I" think is ok and feel comfortable in, maybe a bit on the truckers side tho. work nights so no one see it anyway. I don't know about others but after finishing work somehow I get a little dirty, often spilling cups of coffee over myself or the mustard stains drop onto me shirt from my sambos, maybe I need a bib

some people do look smart in a track suit, but some just take the p*** and come to work in flip flops, cut down jeans made into shorts and string vests, and oh yes, they have come to work dressed like this, this is when the council starts to get a grip.
