we have Auriga in the office this week starting the first phase of the change over to Evo. it will be a little while before we see the new data heads in the cars, but from what i here its got all bling gadgets they offer. sounds like it should help the customers with new and faster booking methods as well.

Steve, in the weekly news letter we get, it stated that the new system with have gps that will guide us to the pick up point and to the destination. Do you know if this is as good as it sounds?? If so, I think I'll hold off getting a sat nav system for myself.

Hi
Why not visit their website www.auriga.co.uk

Apparently they have some units on test in the UK. Screens are a bit small.

i dunno, i was surprised to read that bit, as that suggests something like sat nav for the cars as you say. the auriga website mentions " turn-by-turn route navigation" as an option. but it doesn't say if thats for the drivers or in the office.
http://www.auriga.co.uk/?inc_id=2&art_id=53 click the ct4000 micro site link.

i think i'd still get a Tom Tom anyway.

Yes. Evocab does have the full in car turn by turn linked SatNav facility. So too do most of the other systems now.

Evocab does not have it, Evocab is the office software side of things. The CT4000 unit is the one that we should all be looking at.

You should ask Auriga if they have these units installed on a full fleet and how they are getting on including turn by turn navigation as well as text to speech.....

Lots of features being talked about but action is stronger than words...

Also there are not many data dispatch companies using Turn by Turn navigation in the cars unless you use a PDA

regards

Wise words again Radioman.

Lots of talk but have seen little action regarding the new units.

Still will be hugely expensive compared with PDA. And how quickly they will be upgraded in future is a huge question.

Remember, this will be Auriga's 3rd data unit in 12 years.

How much have hand held computer units changed in that time.

On saying that those who brought the old metal can units are probably still seeing them run and run with very problems.

Are you being argumentative Radioman? I said Evocab does have the facility. And it does. Of course you need the head unit in the car.

And most of the companies now offer it on PDA and separate head units. The show was full of them.

Hello Andy7,

No I am not being argumentative but being FACTUAL. Evocab DOES NOT have the facility for turn by turn navigation. FACT!

As for the CT4000 Data Unit, I would want too see it working with all the features that have been listed before I buy it.

Too many data companies have been supplying equipment with features but they have not been fully working.

Its something they have all done.

Sorry Radioman, I can't agree with you.

Evocab does have the facility to provide the driver with the information as a dynamic link into his PDA or CT4000 or whatever head unit he has in the car. Without that facility, the in car unit is just a TomTom navigator or similar. The instructions come from EvoCab, not TomTom.

So whats this dynamic link then Andy7? Dont you mean that the system will supply the pickup address in the form of a postcode or something or even lat/long of the pickup?

According to our weekly news letter the EVO / CT4000 DOES have built in sat nav for the pick up point and the destinations.

also i would be able to check flight and train times. we've also now got txt back working and the punter gets a txt saying im outside car colour reg # and drivers name. (Although personally im not too keen on some of the punters i get knowing my name.)
