My personal car for the last five years is a 55 plate Volvo S80 diesel, only 45k on the clock, I can see that still being my runaround for another 10 years as its so comfy, cheap to run and damn near bullet proof.
We had one for years, auto version, a brilliant engine, very good mpg.
If yours is an auto make sure that the gear box oil is checked/changed! They say it never needs changing - but it does. The oil does break/gunk up, and I believe that is what screwed our auto gearbox up - that was the reason we got shot of it, as it becomes very expensive to repair/replace.
Changing your gearbox oil is a must, most mechanics will say it doesn't need changing but by lord it does. The gearbox must be a cherry colour and not black. Also changing the oil and the small filter removes any debris that comes from cogs within the gearbox.
When the oil has been changed start the motor and go through all the gears while stood, you'll notice a difference straight away, the gears will be more sharp.
