How long do you think the afghans we trained are going to last out ? Ironic is the Americans handing the country back to there own people.

I don't know what the solution is or how long any peace agreement will last, but, having your countrymen living in fear is no way to run a country. Murdering females for wearing white shoes is not something I'd want on my cv

As opposed to blowing anything up that moves. Wheres the peace agreement now ? I think theres been a lot more lives lost because we went in than there would of been if we had not,and a lot more resentment aswell.

They haven't got one yet, they're talking about talks which is a step in the right direction. There may well have been more lives lost because the armed forces went in, but, how many deaths for stupid things such as wearing white shoes do you need before you step in to help the citizens? That said they didn't go in really to help the citizens they went in because of the poppies

I wasn't suggesting we should go to war over womens rights I was merely pointing out the stupidity of their laws. We need the opium and they know it.

The only reason he was in Pakistan was because the yanks were in Afghanistan.

And the only reason the Taliban are talking is because of those drones.

Think you're kidding yourself there, Sussex.

The West wants out, that's why they've handed security over to the Afghans. They will withdraw before the end of next year.
The Taliban just want to hurry that along, then it will be business as usual, like before we invaded.
The whole war is now deeply unpopular in Washington and they've long since realised it's unwinnable and there's no profit in it. The rest - UK included - will do as they are told, like they always do. President Karzai and his people will be left to the same fate as President Najibullah before him.
By then, our unbiased press will have lost interest, they are already softening us up for their next ill-conceived adventure.

Russia came of worst

Dont forget in the 80's the USA and UK (amonst others) armed the Taliban to fight the Russians

Quote:
The total irrecoverable personnel losses of the Soviet Armed Forces, frontier, and internal security troops came to 14,453. Soviet Army formations, units, and HQ elements lost 13,833, KGB sub-units lost 572, MVD formations lost 28, and other ministries and departments lost 20 men. During this period 312 servicemen were missing in action or taken prisoner; 119 of these were later freed, of whom 97 returned to the USSR and 22 went to other countries.

Of the troops deployed, 53,753 were wounded, injured, or sustained concussion and 415,932 fell sick. A high proportion of casualties were those who fell ill. This was because of local climatic and sanitary conditions, which were such that acute infections spread rapidly among the troops. There were 115,308 cases of infectious hepatitis, 31,080 of typhoid fever, and 140,665 of other diseases. Of the 11,654 who were discharged from the army after being wounded, maimed, or contracting serious diseases, 10,751 men, were left disabled

Within 6 months it'll be back to normal. With places like that you've got to leave them to it or drop one of these one them.

Interesting how the West wont say "boo" to the Saudis considering how they treat their women, breed the most dangerous terrorists - much worse than the Taliban or any other hard line islamist rule.
Oh wait, silly me i forgot, we need their oil
