I didn't know that. I will cross that one off the list for taking visitors now.

Yeah mate it's a Cat C sex offenders prison. The stories my mate has told me turned my stomach. He's been on the transfer list for the last 18 months wanting a move to another prison but, with them not setting any new PO's on it's getting hard.

Jihadist gang jailed for plot to bomb EDL rally

Judge highlights role of extremist material online as six men sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison

Six men fuelled by violent jihadist material have been jailed for a total of more than 100 years for planning to attack an English Defence League rally with guns, swords, knives and a homemade nail-bomb.

The men from the West Midlands were discovered by chance and it is feared that if their attack had been successful, inter-ethnic warfare would have erupted on Britain's streets.

At the Old Bailey on Monday, Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC sentenced the six, who had pleaded guilty to terrorist offences.

The judge said part of the reason they became involved in such a serious plot was "the tide of apparently freely available extremist material in which most of you had immersed yourselves", which he said was an issue of "continuing significance" as counter-terrorism officials continue to grapple with the phenomenon of radicalisation. The judge said that when the men planned to attack the rally last June in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire – in retaliation for what they called the EDL's "blasphemy of Allah and his messenger Muhammad" – they "anticipated that some victims may have died".

The improvised explosive device, made from fireworks, 359 nails and 93 ball bearings, would have showered those nearby with hot shrapnel, potentially maiming or killing them.

Omar Khan, 31, Jewel Uddin, 27, and Zohaib Ahmed, 22, were each sentenced to 19-and-a-half years' imprisonment, with an additional five years of restrictions on licence.

Mohammed Saud, 23, Anzal Hussain, 25, and Mohammed Hasseen, 23, were sentenced to 18 years and nine months, with an additional five years on licence.

The court heard the attack was abandoned when the group turned up two hours after the EDL demonstration had finished, on 30 June last year.

Their plans were uncovered by chance when a police officer carried out a routine stop on one of the vehicles as the men made their way back to Birmingham. The car was seized but the weapons and bomb were only discovered two days later when the vehicle was searched.

Five of the defendants had travelled in two cars from Birmingham to Dewsbury on the afternoon of 30 June with an arsenal of weapons hidden in holdalls in the boot of one of the cars.

Among the weapons were two shotguns, swords, knives, the nail bomb stuffed with shrapnel and explosives and a partially assembled pipe bomb.

Also recovered from the car were 10 printouts on A4 paper of a document addressed to the prime minister and the Queen that set out in chilling terms the gang's determination to take revenge on the "enemies of Allah" – the "English Drunkards League".

It stated: "We love death more than you love life … What we did today was a direct retaliation of your insulting of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) & also in retaliation of your crusade against Islam/Muslims on a global scale. It is of the greatest honour for us to do what we did."

The judge said the men spent eight weeks preparing the attack and all six were found with extremist material.

Three of them had read the terrorist online magazine Inspire, which is connected to Anwar al-Awlaki, the former spiritual leader of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, who was killed in his Yemeni hideout by a US drone strike on 30 September 2011.

Awlaki's propaganda has been linked to terrorist plots in the US and UK, including the attempted murder of the Labour MP Stephen Timms in 2010.

On Uddin's mobile phone was a lecture in which the speaker said that it was right to wage war against the unbeliever. Uddin also collected components for a pipe bomb after reading instructions in Inspire.

At Hasseen's home, police found 859 files of extremist material, including some urging people to fight abroad, a digital copy of Inspire containing pipe bomb instructions and a video about IEDs. Saud had also read Inspire. The judge said of the extremist material found: "In this case, it can only have served to reinforce the defendants' resolve to behave in the hideous way that was planned".

Hilliard said that the EDL and their campaign against Muslims contained "foul and inflammatory insults", but the plot to kill had to be punished by long jail terms. He explained that remorse expressed by the defendants and a guilty plea had helped them avoid life sentences.

He said: "As a matter of generality, unlawful violence of any kind, and foul and inflammatory insults of a racial nature or directed towards a particular religious group deserve at the least unequivocal condemnation … I acknowledge the unrest and enormous distress such behaviour gives rise to. But as a response, more unlawful violence is not on the list of options."

One of the group, Uddin, was under "low-level" surveillance by the security services because of a suspected connection to a separate plot to carry out an attack rivalling the 7 July 2005 bombings – although police said there was not enough evidence against him to warrant his arrest in relation to that case.

Another, Hussain, is the brother of Ishaaq Hussain, one of those convicted in April in the same plot. A third, Ahmed, had served a prison sentence after being convicted of possession of terrorist material from the internet.

Counter-terrorism detectives said the group was not on their radar and that they knew nothing about the plot as the men set off for Dewsbury.

West Midlands assistant chief constable Marcus Beale said: "The methods they were using with their improvised explosive bomb, the firearms, the knives, would have almost certainly killed people – they'd have definitely maimed people.

"It was a horrible attack and it would have had a profound effect on many of our communities."

Oxford grooming gang jailed: Dogar and Karrar brothers get life for abuse and rape of young girls

The men, aged between 27 and 38, were found guilty of eight years of offending

Seven members of a gang which groomed girls as young as 12 and subjected them to “dreadful” sexual abuse over the course of eight years have been sentenced to at least 95 years in prison.

The men, who ran a child sexual abuse ring in Oxford, were convicted of a range of offences, including the rape and trafficking of young girls around the country for sex. Five of them have been given life sentences, with two more sentenced to a total of seven years each.

There were tears in the public gallery, where four of the six victims who gave evidence during the lengthy trial sat with family and friends.

The mother of Girl A said that the ordeal of a near five-month trial was been “long and harrowing”. In a statement read by police outside court, she said: “We were a happy family, living in a good area. We never imagined this could be possible and we want to make other parents and carers aware that this type of crime can happen anywhere. It’s not about location, it’s about the perpetrators. It isn’t about affluence or poverty - these men deliberately targeted and groomed our daughter regardless of our family background. They took her from us and we will never get those lost years back.

“It is important that every single one of us is vigilant and observant of children’s behaviour and we urge anyone with any concerns to follow their instincts and come forward. If you have any concerns at all, tell someone before it’s too late.”

One of the convicted men Mohammed Karrar refused to come up from the cells to hear sentence passed and both Akhtar Dogar and Assad Hussain stood up and walked out shortly after hearing their own sentences.

Judge Peter Rook told them they committed “exceptionally grave crimes” against the girls and said that the “depravity” they showed was extreme. He told one of the men as he passed sentence: “You targeted the young girls because they were vulnerable, under-age and out of control.”

And the judge spoke of the “courage” shown by the victims, many of whom were in care homes while they were being abused, in giving evidence. He said that he hoped their actions would mean that authorities would not repeat past failings and condemn yet more vulnerable children to years of abuse.

He told the men: “There can be no doubt that you have blighted [your victims’] lives and robbed them of their adolescence.” And he added: “Each of the six young girls has shown enormous courage in coming to the Old Bailey to give evidence, knowing they would be accused of lying, knowing they would have to relive their ordeals and knowing they have not been believed before. The jury has found they have come to the court to tell the truth.”

Brothers Akhtar, 32, and Anjum Dogar, 31, were both given life sentences and were told they would serve a minimum of 17 years each before being considered for release.

The other set of brothers Mohammed, 38, and Bassam Karrar, 34, were also given life sentences. Mohammed was told he will serve a minimum of 20 years in prison and his younger brother 15 years before they will be considered for release. Kamar Jamil, 27, was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 12 years to be served. Each of the men was also given a sentence of between eight and twenty years for other offences. They will run concurrently.

Assad Hussain, 32, and Zeeshan Ahmed, 28, were both sentenced to five and two-year terms running consecutively; making a total of seven years each. The judge told them they would spend half of that time behind bars, with the second half being served on licence. Each was also told he is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

As he was led away, Zeeshan Ahmed attempted to hold up a sign to the court but it was quickly snatched away from him by security staff. He shook his head and muttered throughout the judge’s remarks.

Speaking outside of the court, Senior Investigating Officer Simon Morton, who led Operation Bullfinch, said: “This is a great result for the victims. At last they can see justice has been done. These men have received a total of at least 95 years. The girls can now start to move on with their lives knowing the men that caused them so much pain are locked up.

“More than that, every victim around the country can see that justice does work. If you’ve suffered like these girls have, please come and tell us your story, we can help you.

“There is another message here. Anyone out there who even thinks of committing sexual atrocities like these needs to look over their shoulder and keep looking over their shoulder. We know how you work, we know how you think. Be in no doubt, we are coming for you.”

Chief Crown Prosecutor in the Thames and Chiltern area Baljit Ubhey said: “The victims in this case were targeted because of their vulnerability and then cynically exploited. They were given drink and drugs; they were shown attention to make them feel special, all of which was insincere and designed solely to make them feel indebted to their abusers; they were then coerced into sexual acts by emotional pressure, intimidation, threats and violence. As a result, these girls were left in absolutely no position to give true and free consent to sexual acts.

“This is an important point for other victims out there, who may think that they won’t be believed because they too seemingly ‘agreed’ to sexual activity. The background and context of such sexual activity is of crucial importance and victims who are forced to succumb to it by the use of such tactics do not, in the eyes of the law, consent to it.”

A Serious Case Review has been ordered into the failings of authorities to stop the gang, which first appeared on their radar six years before its members were finally arrested.

I'll avoid stating the obvious for fear of rattling the cages of the equality and diversity puritanical do-gooders who trawl the internet in their pathetic bid to find someone to crucify for daring to disagree with them.. :-#

Amanda Hutton guilty of starving Hamzah Khan to death

Image

A woman whose four-year-old son starved to death and was left in his cot for nearly two years has been found guilty of killing him.

Hamzah Khan's mummified remains were found in squalor at their Bradford home in September 2011 after he died due to severe malnutrition.

His mother, Amanda Hutton, 43, was convicted of manslaughter by gross negligence at Bradford Crown Court.

Hutton was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on Friday.

Squalid conditions

The jury heard Hamzah had a "grossly inadequate" diet, suffered osteoporosis and was wearing a baby grow for a six to nine-month-old infant when he died.

Returning the verdict after almost five hours of deliberation, the foreman of the jury made it clear jurors had convicted Hutton on the basis that she was grossly negligent by not providing adequate nourishment for Hamzah.

Amanda Hutton in custody Amanda Hutton claimed she had struggled to get her son to eat
The two-week trial heard Hamzah's body was found in the house in the Heaton area of the city in terrible squalor, where five other siblings of school age were living.

Hutton admitted a charge of child cruelty in respect of each of these children, who were aged between five and 13 in 2011.

Hutton has also admitted a charge of preventing the burial of a corpse, along with her eldest son, Tariq, 24, who will also be sentenced on Friday.

Prosecutors said Hamzah most probably died from malnutrition because Hutton neglected him as she concentrated on her alcohol addiction.

They said she starved her son to death.

Hutton claimed she had struggled to get her son to eat and he had died suddenly.

Hamzah's decomposed body was found in a travel cot in Hutton's bedroom.

'Pain and suffering'

The trial heard his remains had been in the cot for almost two years when they were found by police searching the house on 21 September 2011.

Hamzah had died in December 2009.

PC Jodie Dunsmore West Yorkshire Police: "She (Amanda Hutton) had flies coming off her"

Det Supt Lisa Griffin, from West Yorkshire Police, who led the investigation, said the "heart-breaking" case was the worst she had seen during 28 years in the police service.

She said she had never seen such "appalling" conditions as those inside the house in Bradford when the body of Hamzah was discovered.

The conditions in the house had gone from being "presentable" to being "absolutely squalid" at the time Hamzah's body was discovered, said Ms Griffin.

Hutton had "many opportunities" to accept the professional support which had been offered to her but she had chosen not to, she added.

"She was obstructive, she was difficult and she failed in her ability to parent that child, to look after his basic needs, and sadly he died in the most difficult of circumstances.

"I can only imagine the pain and the suffering that that child endured."

'Dreadful tragedy'

Speaking outside court, Malcolm Taylor, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said Hamzah's death was a "horrific crime".

"It is heart-breaking to contemplate the suffering Hamzah must have endured."

Ralph Berry, Bradford Council's executive member for children and young people, said Hamzah's death was a "dreadful tragedy" that had shocked and appalled local people.

The rubbish-strewn living room in Amanda Hutton's house Police found Amanda Hutton's living room and other rooms strewn with rubbish
Professor Nick Frost, independent chair of Bradford Safeguarding Children Board, said the findings of a serious case review into the circumstances surrounding Hamzah's death would be published once all other proceedings had been completed.

"The main aim of the report is to make sure all agencies involved learn lessons and change working practices where necessary.

"However, given the refusal of all offers of help that would be offered to any mother and the lack of serious concerns raised from any other source, there was limited involvement from statutory agencies."

Peter Wanless, chief executive of the NSPCC, said it was obvious something had gone seriously wrong in Hamzah's case.

"It appears Hamzah disappeared off the radar of his community and services, and a full picture of the horror that was his life emerged two years too late," he said.

I heard her 'friends' on the radio blaming the authorities - of course, they deflect their own responsibility, and of course the responsibility of the mother.

Some people can't see past their noses. She left a child's body to decompose for years without telling the authorities. Where were her friends? Why didn't they notice her child was missing?

reading these stories i find extremely disturbing having 4 children myself now grown up

i wonder how on earth we deal with this problem within our nation?

then theres the Headlines 700 000 children go to school daily hungry, why do we allow it ?

TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH ANYONE
