Illegal school taxi

A WORKINGTON couple have been prosecuted for operating an unlicensed taxi for school runs.

Dorothy Stabler, 53, of Walker Road, Salterbeck, Workington, took schoolchildren from addresses in Workington and Seaton to Stainburn and Seaton schools.

The Skoda Octavia used, on January 18 and 21, was not licensed for use as a hackney carriage.

Mrs Stabler pleaded guilty to two offences of driving a vehicle as a hackney carriage without a licence when she appeared at West Allerdale Magistrates Court in Workington this week.

She was prosecuted by Allerdale council as was her husband Robert Stabler, 45, who owned the car.

Mr Stabler, of the same address, pleaded guilty to allowing Mrs Stabler to drive the vehicle as a hackney carriage without a licence.

He admitted the offences when interviewed by council officers on January 24.

Both Mr and Mrs Stabler were absent from court.

She was fined £150 and Mr Stabler, £250. Both were ordered to pay £65 court costs.

Could have really caused confusion if his defence was he was using the car as a unlicensed PH.

I suspect he was given a fixed penalty and took it.

When I saw the strapline for this post, I thought a taxi had been operating in an illegal school.

is a joke, how can they say yes we are cleaning up the taxi industry, yes that is truly reflected by the joke of a fine.
