Last night i got a hire from A&E Wishaw General hospital up to Lesmahagow, a £25 hire anyways arrived there and the guy sat in the back said "here is my phone i will be back with the money in a minute" just as he was putting the phone in my hand he grabbed it back out and ran, was fu**ing fuming as you would be, so drove to the local police station to report it, they didn't really care and said they had a big operation on and most of the officers were leaving, i drove back and went to my local police station and told them what happened and the mans description. it really annoys me for people who do that. I mean we are out there to make a living and they think its okay not to pay

Sorry to here about that mate,it has happened to us all.it really makes you sick that they could do such a thing.Thankfully it's a very small minority.I now tend to ask for money up front on a sizeable job.Don't beat yourself up about it,look upon it as another part of your experience.

It happened to a driver here on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. The job was about £15 and when they were in the village the punter got out and did a runner............................unfortunately for him he had already given his phone to the driver as security. #-o The driver used the phone to ring the lads mum and tell here what he had done. Mum was not impressed as it was 3.00 in the morning. =D> =D> =D>

I find that if you ask politely it doesn't offend.

Correct, I find that if I'm polite in asking for MUF they pay without questioning you. Those who argue obviously have something to hide. I give them 2 options which are as follows.

1. Give me your card and I'll take a payment.
2. MUF or we are going nowhere.

None of the above = no ride home simples.

Say its company policy and the boss will sack me if I don't ask.

Those who have a problem with MUF are usually the same one's who weren't going to pay anyway.

FFS Do they eat the McDonalds before they pay for it?

By installing the Pay-and-go-taxis payment deposit unit you are taking away the confrontation that could be caused by asking for money up front. Even though you are effectively doing that the difference is that you are not physically sticking out your hand for money and implying that you don't trust the passenger. By saying put your deposit into the payment system, its like getting on a bus or the tube and "paying for your journey" before you travel. The unit clearly displays how much has been paid in and signage on the taxi tells passengers IN ADVANCE that you use the Pay and Go system so if they don't want to pay up front then use another cab!

I seen this at the taxi show in Manchester, can't remember how much they said it was but it was between £300 - £500 I think. I quite liked the idea to be honest.

Yeah right in my experience they are the ones trying to dump punters with no money on them into taxis to get rid of them !!!!

i know, all the hospitals are like that, can't wait to get you bloody out! but he was taken in as he had fallen down a flight of stares and burst his head open and had to go in for stitches, but maybe he won't be so smart again when he gets in a taxi and thinks about not paying, and the police told me he was well known to them anyways, doesn't that tell you something! one thing i like about the vectras, when you press the door lock button on the drivers door, it locks the doors on the outside AND THE INSIDE, very few cars have that feature
