CASH CAB - Anyone seen it?

It's on ITV at 3pm Mon - Fri this week. It's fantastic, the driver pays the passengers for answering questions. Set in Manchester, this is a hilarious series.

Watch it and see what a shock the passengers get when they are told they have just hailed the CASH CAB. Then watch their faces as some leave the cab 2miles and £1500 later. It's hilarious.

'Chav' TV strikes again, and they wonder why people refuse to pay their TV license fee?

At least we agree on something.

I haven't seen it, but I've seen the trailer a few times, and concluded that I would only watch it out of curiosity.

The first time I saw the trailer it the voiceover said, and the following was splattered across the screen:

"THERE ARE 67,000 TAXIS IN THE UK."

Oh good I thought, at last a serious programme about taxis. Then I immediately realised it was going to be even worse than Taxi Nights.

What is it about taxis and TV programmes based in Manchester

I assume fairway's opening post was from promotional material and not his view of the programme?

I had about two minutes worth of it. That was enough for me. I expect you all noticed that the cab was not even plated.

Yes McDeHack, i did notice the lack of plate, as he pulled over for the fare in Finsbury circus.

I wonder if a complaint would be upheld by the PCO, even though the journey would have cost him nothing?

Is he a Taxi driver? I love all his gold jewlery and the one handed driving skills?

So is it in Manchester or London then?

I think that vehicles only need to be licensed if they are operated with a view to profit, in which case if you pick up a hitchhiker (say) in your private car then you don't need licensing. The taxi in the programme presumably isn't charging the punters, but ultimately it's being operated by the programme makers to make money, so I wonder?

But no doubt they've checked the situation with the authorities, but if the programme consists of someone compering a quiz show while driving, then presumably they're not that bothered about acting responsibly.

I watched about 15 minutes of it on Monday when it was in Manchester and it seemed quite funny. On Tuesday I seen it again but after a few minutes I switched it off. It is totally ridiculous really. It was the same driver but this time, it was in London.

I thought the plate had been blanked out when I first watched it, but when I looked more closely, it appeared that there was no plate.

If this was genuine, the driver would have had to have done the London knowledge and the Manchester equivalent as well.

It is very far fetched. Taxi nights was a lot of crap as well. It was a long series that could have been cut down to a one - off half hour show. It was just the same thing over and over.

Something else that did annoy me though was the dodgy limos that were shown on the programme under the name TAXI nights. They probably didn't even have PH plates.

At least Taxi Nights did touch on real issues once or twice, such as PH/taxi conflict.

However, even when TV does try to address the real issues, they never seem to get really into it.

For example, I remember a Channel 5 programme about PH/Taxi conflict in Luton.

A whole half hour and not a mention of restricted numbers - given that Luton was about 10 to 1 PH, it might have been an obvious issue to mention.

But maybe the T&G/NTA briefed them for the programme

deffo had no plate on the cab. was watchin it this afternoon and it was all around LIVERPOOL recognised the areas he wasnt workin of a night,it was just starting to get dark and the programme finished wouldnt of been broadcastable if it was of a night.
maybe ch4 of someone should do a proper real life programme the way it really is.taxi nights was better!

I saw it today - what a treat

From the titles it seems to be set in Manchester, Liverpool and London.

The driver certainly seemed to give the impression that he knows his way around London (on today's programme), so if he knows all three cities then he's doing well. Of course, he might be totally clueless, and he did have an earpiece in, so it might be a real cabbie in the following vehicle giving directions, but the earpiece might have been more to do with the quiz, and if he didn't know where he was going then he driving manner certainly seemed very confident.

As regards the need for plates, he certainly didn't seem to be picking up at the ranks, in fact a couple of the pick ups he did seemed to be bizarre indeed, and the punters seemed to be standing halfway down deserted streets, not the kind of streets you would stand in to hail a cab.

However, the pick ups could have been staged, and the whole thing less of a surprise for the punters than was made out.

just watching the Glasgow episode. first guy won £4090. as a quiz show i guess its different and i've seen worse.

made me smile when one of the girls said' this is the most nerve racking cab i ever been in'.... never been to plymouth then love?
