Hello all, im new to the job and need that little help to start with. So need alittle advice on what Sat Nav to get. I guess my main concern is getting one that has a poor touchscreen, so any decents ones to look out for would be great

A to Z book of your local area are better.

Agreed, satnav won't show you where the local take-away is, or which side of the road 44 Acacia Avenue is on. Nor will the AtoZ, but driving around will teach you, plus you'll be able to memorise the road layout far easier by looking at a map than blindly following the satnav..

Get the cheapest off ebay.

But don't rely on them for local work, just long distance stuff.

Perhaps he doesn't want to look like some clueless w4nk3r that doesn't know where he's going?

Nothing professional about asking people for the postcode, or wasting time punching an address into a sat-nav that a real professional would already know.

I'd have their use banned within a driver's licensed area.

Surly it takes longer to look through a A-Z then it does to type in a street name into a sat nav?

I know my local area but not all, hence why i asked the question. I can see from the comments i received its quiet a contentious area.

But still if anyone can suggest a sat nav which they use and find it quick and easy to input names and places i would be very appreciative

when I was a vanman/7.5tonner man i had a holdall of A-Z's - and they cost £5-£10 each, thank God for GPS!

in some counties the fire brigade produce a great a-z, warwickshire certainly do

i have a Tom Tom with full european maps but the great thing about being a PH one man band is taking the bookings and knowing where its going before the pick up

I use a Garmin. It has all of Europe and it is also my bluetooth for my phone. It is voice activated so I don't have to touch it at all except for accepting a phone call, but I am sure that it can be done.

Another new driver I use a Garmin nuvi, it's okay and I only bring it out for long fares, but don't keep it on the windscreen all the time, makes you look unprofessional and clutters the dash up, I keep a A-Z in the door bin for most of the western belt of Scotland,

motorway service newsagents always had 10 drivers reading A-Z's (but not buying them) before the advent of GPS...

Day one yes, but the longer you are in the trade the less you will need to look.

Also punters often know where they live.
