this is the other thing, a manual gearbox can often be sourced for £100 from a scrappy, try finding a DSG in a scrapyard...

You won't need a replacement box for a DSG. I'd buy a recon unit anyway for the sake of reliability. You know it makes sense.

and what would a recon cost?...

Auto auto auto. Why anyone who drives for a living would want to drive a manual is beyond me but each to their own.

I have the Vito M8 and the Merc dealership wanted to change my gearbox fluid for £200.Spoke to a local garage owner who told me it never needed changing,it was just a money making ploy! I am on 292,000 miles now and it's still running like a dream.Mind,I met a guy with a 55 Plate Vito at Manchester last year that had 670,000 on the clock so mine's just run in!

I think autos are best, but in the many years I've graced this trade I've never driven one.

I find autos are for lazy drivers, I mean I have never owned a auto, only drove old wedding cars which were autos, but except from that I have always been in a manual

You could say the same for power steering, electric windows, remote locking, cruise control and electric tailgates+doors, its not as if changing gear is a full workout is it, its just your left leg a few times, plus you cant stall an auto and your always in the right gear, 30-60 "overtaking" figures are faster in autos cos they kickdown, the Autocar record holder used to be a Chevy Corvette but the big V8 helped too

I wasn't that bothered about winder windows or central locking take it or leave it, but I think PAS and ABS is more a safety safety precaution than a luxury, I mean i think was the last time I stalled was over A month ago, I mean I'm not the best driver in the world who is, but I don't need the car to change gears for me, I bought it I will pick what gear I want when I want

well If I had a choice between pas and non pass, I would take a car equipped with pas, with a car the size if the superb at 15 ft 2" parking is always hard with it so pas is needed with it, if it fits in the bay though
