A few weeks ago my 56 plate TX4 suddenly refused to start on rank, middle of the day. Turned over fine but wouldn't fire. Amber engine management light came on. AA came out and before plugging their reader in the guy said "crank sensor fault". which it was. Had a new one fitted but even then the garage struggled to start it but then said they'd forgotten to clear the fault and then it started fine.
The next morning it struggled to start and the light came on but did fire. Went to garage and a driver in there said it was a sign my battery was on the way out. Not quite turning over fast enough to satisfy sensor. Garage said next time it fails try jumping it with leads. If that works you know it's your battery. Did all that and got a new battery.
However now it seems to happen most mornings. It turns over at the normal speed but struggles to fire. While it's trying to start the amber engine management light comes on. After driving for an hour or so, killing engine occasionally on ranks etc. the light goes out. I have no trouble starting it at all apart from when cold. I've taken it to a garage and it shows the crank sensor code. I was advised to give it a bit more heat in the morning (turn the key to get the glow plugs going two or three times before starting) and this made no difference.
Any ideas?

The crank shaft sensor that you fitted could be faulty.

Sounds like you need new glow plugs.

u need the DTC error codes read, i assume as a 56 plate its OBD2 compliant?

what engine is it?

it could be a faulty EGR valve, low fuel pressure, crank or cam sensor.....god knows what

either buy your own diagnostic (from £20) or pay to get it scanned (£40-£65)
