Court: Peterborough minicab driver’s licence appeal rejected

A private hire cab driver caught illegally plying for trade has had an appeal against the loss of his licence refused.

Chaudhary Muhammed Arif (42) of Vere Road, Peterborough, appeared before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 5 September to appeal against the city council’s decision to revoke his private hire driver’s licence following his second conviction for unlawfully plying for hire and transporting the public without insurance.

The conviction related to an incident where Arif was caught unlawfully plying for hire during a joint police and city council licensing team operation.

The court upheld the council’s decision and ruled that Arif was not a fit and proper person to hold a private hire driver’s licence. He was ordered to pay a contribution of £350 towards the council’s costs.

Peter Gell, Strategic Regulatory Services Manager for Peterborough City Council, said: “We welcome the result of this case and the confirmation that the council’s decision was the right one.

“The protection of the travelling public is of paramount importance to us. People have the right to feel safe when using a licensed taxi service and should expect fit and proper drivers to transport them.

“We will continue to act against any taxi drivers tarnishing the trade with dangerous or illegal actions and hope this serves as a warning.”

Does your Council allow applications with a IN10 and points?

There are currently 9 drivers with badges in our district who previously lost their PH badges in Peterborough !!

When asked our councils answer is always " We cannot deny someone the right to earn a living"

I'm not asian different rules apply !!!!! the long and the short of it is that enforcement is something they shy away from unless you are an easy target and they like to concentrate on revenue generation not enforcement

No, they were threatening to take my car off the road for being too old. I won that one and am waiting for the court costs to reach my bank account.
