Pupil travels in a large Balder electric wheelchair, fitted with hydraulics. Regular driver and escort required. Please note that he will need to travel facing forwards in the vehicle and that a black cab will not be suitable for this contract. Rear loading vehicle required with a ramp or tail lift and with suitable equipment to restrain a 100kg wheelchair.

The length of the ramp on a black cab will buckle under the weight of the wheelchair.

What were once wheelchairs are rapidly becoming small electric cars, you see very few good old fashioned wheelchairs these days only their large modern powered cousins.

Seems a bit crazy to encourage more WAVs when the modern leccy Wheelchairs no longer fit into them.

Aye..so it rather makes WAV hacks redundant. maybe they should abolish Mobility allowance and with it the Motability Scheme (Scam) and replace it with Travel Vouchers to use on Taxis and PH's, that extra potential income might convince a lot more owners to buy a suitable vehicle if they thought it was likely to be profitable.

Dream on...

Motability is the biggest fleet (and buyer) in the UK, and some you see with the cars seem quite fit...

Perfectly fit in a lot of cases.............bunch of scammers a lot of them. why should they get a free car and the rest of us don't, is their need in greater than ours, have they got pressing commitments that they must have a car in order to full fill..nope. most of them do not work so have little need of a car and if desperate asda or tesco can deliver their shopping to them.

I wonder how many £Billions a year Mobility soaks up now?

5 December 2011 #-o

A lot less since ATOS and IDS have been curing more disabled people than Billy Graham on speed.

Littlejohn omitted to mention a few things in his Tory puff piece, BTW. Pretty much as I would have expected from Der Sturmer.

Like the young bloke near me who has just got a motability car, then openly advertised the fact on his bookface page that he's going to operate as a taxi (unlicenced) to give his mates cheap lifts to and from the pub. Pity his page is only accessible to his friends or the LO would have been onto it by now.
