Taxi thug broke driver’s jaw then battled the police

A man has been jailed after he punched a taxi driver, breaking his jaw in two places, following a dispute about a fare.

Leeds Crown Court heard Aaron Wise and another man had gone to a taxi office in Ossett on the evening May 11 but had travelled less than 50 metres when they told the driver to stop, saying they would walk.

Simon Reevell prosecuting said the driver Imran Hussain told them they would have to pay the minimum £2.50 charge which they disputed.

When the pair got out Wise left a rear door open and when Mr Hussain got out to shut it he heard him say: “Take this” and was then struck to the jaw.

The double fracture was discovered when he attended Pinderfields Hospital where he stayed overnight.

Mr Reevell said in the meantime the description of his attacker was circulated and police found Wise and arrested him after a violent struggle.

He initially claimed that Mr Hussain had tried to head butt him but was shown CCTV footage which showed that was untrue.

Wise, 23 then of Dale Street, Ossett, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 10 months.

Sentencing him Judge Guy Kearl QC said it was a serious offence since Mr Hussain was simply performing a service to the public.

“Not only did you strike him but you struck him to such a degree you fractured his jaw in two places and then when tracked down by police you struggled violently with them.”

The judge said Wise then tried to claim self-defence “when all along you knew perfectly well you were the person who was the aggressor.”

Daniel Smith for Wise, a joiner, said references showed he was normally a hard-working, polite and well-motivated young man.

Please don't think I'm defending the attack, because I'm not, but is this the thickest driver currently driving? :?

He should have been jumping for joy when the scum got out after 50 years, but he wanted his £2.50. ](*,)

The problem is probably because drivers are having to wait an hour or two for a job! In this case I can imagine that the job was issued, and taken, which then theoretically pushes him to the back of the queue. It is annoying beyond belief when that happens..........so I am afraid logic tends to go out of the window.

P.S. I am sure that the driver would have been jumping for joy if he had got out after 50 years....I wonder how old that would make him

I understand that, but surely if the job turned out to be a 50 yard non payer then the operator would put him back first.

If not then they deserve the radio through the office window.
