So is just about any 7/8 seater. Like I said, your argument is crap.

IMO if the vehicle has taxi signage then it should not be allowed - the argument based on the shape of the vehicle is a losing argument.

Then how are saloon PH allowed in places where saloon hacks are licensed?

You should refer to the Durham case regarding taxi colours - and what the judge said in respect of how a taxi should be identified.

Indeed, you should look at the UNITE the union approach to Allied Vehicles and the E7 entering Liverpool - they were relying on the same bit of legislation and got beaten badly.

There's a more recent one on here from Glasgow, although its a Scots Court it makes interesting reading.

I could say colou coded bonnets, or if saloon hack where white, as ur being rubbish, like I said up and down the country hacks and PH are distinguished in some way or another, they dd in Knowsley let one through as PH, but wasn't letting any others through as ph

Let me just point out, I am one person amongst the hack trade, but everyone else is against this not just be as an individual, they are trying to protect their businesses, and also so people can distinguish the difference between hacks and PH, it most prob wouldn't really effect me and my husband, as we have are own customer base with are own Taxicall system, but it does makes sense to be able to distinguish between the both what ever way it might be. But at this point wewe are sticking together with the trade

I can have 2 identical cars, one could be plated as a Private hire, this would have blue council plates on the back and in the front window and blue oval stickers on each side towards the rear of the vehicle. The other could be plated as a Hackney and would have yellow plates on the back and in the front window. It would have a top sign on the roof and no oval stickers towards the back.
Where is the confusion?

As I've said through my own personal experience, people don't know the difference as it is, unlike other towns its not taxi orientated. The amount of people, who have asked me can they just get in or do they have to book, but also I believe some of the blame lies with the la, as they allowed PH to sit at the front of supermarkets, and pick up, must point out most prob the majority, was booked from free phone, but we have been told even by the staff of supermarkets, that they just use to walk out and get in ph

And that happens now with a difference, so you think this will make things worse?

TBH the education of the public is something the cab trade are partly responsible for, why was planning consent granted to the superstore without having adequate ranking facilities? Don't answer because your in the same boat as many.......sadly the life boat has left.

You can force folks to have Hacks and PH's in many different colours, different shapes or different anything else for that matter just to try and tell them apart...but the most obvious and universally recognisable difference is that one simply has a sign reading "TAXI" on it and the other doesn't. How much simpler can it get than that! #-o

How dare you bring some type of logic into this thread......its just typical, we could have kept it going for weeks with acceptable vehicles and unacceptable ones.....but no.....you come along, and bring logic, why I ought to.......

It doesn't happen now, PH have been moved from the front of our supermarkets, after a long fight. None of our supermarkets in St. Helens have taxi ranks, not even the new Tesco that only opened a few yrs back. St. Helens is a joke

You could paint every hack bright yellow with pink polkadots, and force every PH to drive only saloon cars in a fetching shade of turquoise and lime green checks.
It will not make any difference. Joe public cares more about the cost and how long they have to wait, than what they see as a petty squabble amongst taxi drivers.
Most do know the difference, they just don't care.

TBH It's you who doesn't get it, not the public of St Helens.

You and your compatriots should be careful what you wish for because, as others have said, you could well end up with some stupid colour scheme foisted on you or they may further restrict your choice of hack motors.

Also, if it were me being refused a PH plate for a perfectly good 6/7 seater, just because the local hacks don't like it, I wouldn't bother appealing through the courts.
I'd just drive it off to another LA with more sense and plate it as a hack. Then I'd drive it back to St Helens and work the same as before. And this time I'd have a roof light and taxi stickers, I'd be legally able to take my own pre-bookings and my LO would be many miles away.
Think I'm kidding? There's plenty doing it right now.
