Drunk woman ripped off taxi door in Cleethorpes last night

AN intoxicated woman in Cleethorpes pulled off a taxi door after an argument last night.

The woman ripped the sliding door off its hinges on a seven seater taxi in the Market Place at around 2.30pm.

The owner of the taxi rank, Country Cabs, said it caused a scene with people filming and taking pictures.

Owner of the rank, Stuart Phillips, said: "The woman has just been asked to pay for damages of up to £600.

"And even though the police attended we didn't want her to be arrested.

"These things happen and it is not a very safe job being a taxi driver.

"As the van slowly drove off, the woman was pulling on the door the opposite direction and it just crumpled and fell off.

"She was fuelled up with alcohol and was shocked what she had done."

Stuart said everyone was cheering and described it as a "circus".

He added: "There is quite a lot of damage and it will need respraying.

"It's not good because it means another taxi driver is off the road not earning a living."

The taxi driver drove to the rank with the door inside it and between them they managed to get the door back on.

The police were not available to comment at the time.

They should add the Loss of Earnings into the Bill as well........£600 repairs + £400 for the poor old driver. Piss heads like that should be made to pay in full for their deeds, drink is no excuse for that type of behaviour.

I would had the Police involved charge her, it may well be the only come back you have in the pursuit of payment or for the Insurance.

Of course they do! and will continue to do so, so long as people like this do not follow it up, and allow them to get away with it #-o

I've always said drunks should be charged for damage like any other person, they should even be charged for hospital visits if they get admitted for drink related problems. That should stop them taking up the time of the Ambulance brigade and the local A&E department.

That's going to really act as a deterrent.

well, if itshis rank he'll want taxis paying to use it because there's customers there - heaven forbid a customer goes to another rank!

Most people including the press get offices mixed up with Taxi ranks. When I pick people up they'll say, "who's that who's working in your Taxi rank on the phone"?

OK some perspective here

1) If the owners of the taxi decide to pay this themselves or claim on the insurance that is their perogative if a tad misguided

2) was the door already damaged or in a poor state of repair and a little over enthusiasm bring about the inevitable because the owners were taking risks with a faulty vehicle ?

3) I have been driving taxis for over 22 years now and have NEVER once managed to get a customer to pay for broken door handles,Window mechanisms, Windows damaged interior trim etc.etc. it's never their fault blah blah blah and to take them to court would cost well in excess of the cost of repairs
