Octavia manual, even vw can't make a decent auto, one driver just replaced an insignia with a superb DSG, good car and it has the 2.0 diesel but the wrong box

Personally an Octavia is too small, the cabin is cramped and the back seats arent big on leg room

I wouldnt call the DSG an auto, its an electrically shifted manual isnt it, not a proper slushbox

Why's it got the wrong box? They're 6 speed auto.

True on the mk1 octy but the mk2 and especially three aren't that bad, and plus the avensis is only available in saloon and estate guise's where as the octy is hatch and estate

DSG isn't a taxi/ph box, a manual is a proper drivers box especially in winter months

DSG stands for Direct Shift Gearbox,

and no you don't want one in a taxi or PH in simple terms its 2 separate boxes and clutch packs which are electronically controlled within one gearbox, and whilst they are great when they go wrong which they do they are ruddy expensive to get put right. very very complex very very expensive but if you could get one and warranty it its a cracking box

Why a manual box for winter? I've driven auto boxes for years now and NEVER had a problem getting around in winter. Front wheel drive with winter tyres, no problems. Last winter we were the ONLY cabs running in my area for a few days. That was with the Chrysler Voyager and Toyota hybrid.

No offence Roy, we tend to get more severe winters up here. The landscape also tends to be a bit less flat

Not if you look after them and change the oil every 40,000 miles. There's one round here that's done 150,000 on a DSG double crewed night and day, they've had no bother with their box, they change the gear oil every 40,000 miles and it's still pulling like a train.

Anyone who choses a manual over a DSG auto is off their rocker.
